jchioma:The police have no stake in that community that's why. I keep on telling you guys. Security is local, domesticated at the point of the crime. If the policemen were from that town, that community and they were living down the streets and everyone knew them by name, knew which markets their wives shopped and where their children schooled and which place of worship the family attended they will certainly not run. Run to where as stakeholders and defenders of their communities indeed. Look folks. There is NO substitute for local government and state police. It is clear to the blind and audible to the deaf that this system we practice is just not fit for purpose. It expired the day we declared our independence from Britain. The system we practice was enough to run the colonial administration and keep the people in line under central authority. The years of escalating poverty induced criminality saturating the land and growing extremism popping up in every corner has exposed the system as grossly inadequate. |

VOsimhen144:What do you mean by bandits? Who was robbed? Banditry is robbery especially in highways and countryside. When armed men attack and kill a targeted group of people within towns and cities, it is either they're referred to as armed men or terrorists. |

elpochas:Just imagine how you sound, you sound like a police man. People that are paid to protect you. One question for you. So it bandit or criminal came to attack you n your family and the police station close to you couldn't do anything to help or protect you, I guess if somebody say what you said up there, you for no like am. Police are made to protect you not to run from crisis |

Thundafireseun:If the federal police is a failure, why shouldn't they advocate for state police? The people will be responsible for the local security architecture |

| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by nairalanda1(m): 2:11pm On Mar 31 |
lawani:A state police to work well as you would want it to would cost far far more than that, young man. Far far more. You got to pay for good police stations, good police cars...not a hilux, a proper police car, you got to pay for better weapons, not just assault weapons, and you got to pay for a host of other things...like good detention facilities, and good enough forensic and training facilites. It all adds up. A lot You also need to fund a marine wing, find money for drones and helicopters, and so forth. State police costs money. A lot of money. |

Lesson for those in the south of Nigeria who don't understand that at the appointed period, these Islamists will come in a blitzkreig. A few armed terrorists can conquer the whole of Southern Nigeria in a few days. |

sulaak:A governor in charge of state policing with immunity from prosecution… what do you think will happen? Federal Police will be in charge of training the state police… where the federal police ran away, do you honestly believe that the state police will stand there ?? |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by lawani(m): 2:40pm On Mar 31 |
nairalanda1:How old are you that you are calling me a young man? I am 46. I am talking mainly about operations cost and not establishment cost which is a one off. One year operations cost will be more than enough as establishment cost. Lagos state police will never need more than 500 billion naira a year if up to that and the majority of expenses will be salaries. How much is even the budget of the NPF and the army with their high number of personnel? Start with how much is the budget of even the Nigerian army and divide it by twenty |

CodeTemplar:, You must be very foolish to say this, are they soldiers? How much is the government paying them to die for the nation. Swear, if you are in their shoes, you won't run away? They are seeing the kind of suffering, the retired officers are passing through and you want them to come and die for this kind country? We are not yet ready |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by nairalanda1(m): 3:03pm On Mar 31 |
lawani:Because in your responses to me you are being patronising. And you also talked about me with a put downish mentality behind my back For someone your age that's sad |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by lawani(m): 3:11pm On Mar 31 |
nairalanda1:Put downish? Sorry about that. I never meant that. I however mentioned you here and not behind your back. I don't know your name or anything to talk about about you behind your back. I can see that you are actually the younger man. Only a young man can be quoting such ridiculously high figures as being required to run a police department of a small state. |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by nairalanda1(m): 3:15pm On Mar 31 |
lawani:Well, I know I am right when I believe that it would cost states to pay for state police a lot of money. I deal in realism, and most Nigerians are not very realistic. They believe that a state police can be funded from securitry votes. It cannot, and it would not work very well. (I'm also not younger than you, darling ) |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by lawani(m): 3:18pm On Mar 31 |
nairalanda1:You can't run a police department with security vote of course because with a police department you are substantially increasing the size of your civil service as a state. It can be as much as ten percent more and your expenses will increase accordingly. That is all there is to it |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by nairalanda1(m): 3:21pm On Mar 31 |
lawani:It would cost far more than that. I am saying this because one thing I have learned about years on this site is that Nigerians think that they can get a ferrari at the cost of a toyota. It's not possible. A state police would cost a lot. Unless you want a glorified version of the nigerian police. |

[quote author=CodeTemplar post=138949515]They are not suffering. Keep the hell shut. They cannot defend but collect the available salary and refuse to do the job. [/quote Their core duties is prevention and detention of crimes . They apprehension of offenders. They protection of life and properties The due enforcement of laws and regulations with which they are directly charged The performance of such military duties within or outside Nigeria as may be required of them by or under the authority of the police act or any other act. The preservation of the liberty of the citizens The control and regulations of traffic Defending the nation is the core duties of the military Moreover, you will observe that those bandits are more equipped than those police officers, those bandits always wear original bullets proofs while you want the police to go and fight them with ordinary uniform. Sit down sometimes and think. |

Thundafireseun:What do you think is happening today? The country is being invaded by Fulani and Kanuri jihadists with the backing of political elites. The Nigerian federal police and army are incapable and compromised. We need armed state police to protect us from domination. The country is at war. |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by sulaak(m): 5:26pm On Mar 31 |
discusant:These yoyo, think we need state police for law and order. State police will allow the south to build and train your men into a organised security force. Nigeria is at war |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by sulaak(m): 5:29pm On Mar 31 |
nairalanda1:Nigeria is at war with jihadist from the North, the state policie is are potetial security agency that would be trainined to protectn us from Jihadist |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by nairalanda1(m): 5:32pm On Mar 31 |
sulaak:Yes but it's going to cost a lot of money to get them to that level Note that I am not saying no to.state police. I'm saying no to a state police that would be wiped out by well armed jihadi fighters because the budget for the state police is severely malnourished |
| Re: Police Threw Their Guns And Ran Away When The Bandits Arrived Angwan Rukuba by lawani(m): 7:31pm On Mar 31 |

nairalanda1:Right now we don't have anything to defend us. The Jiihadist are getting military exposure fighting Nigeria's weak army. |
