I think it's becoming a form of mental illness when good news about your country gives you headache. It’s like hoping the very plane you’re on goes down. Anyways, For those downplaying it, Nigeria already exports over $2 billion worth of goods to China each year. It may not be record-breaking, but the policy should boost that figure by making Nigerian goods more attractive to Chinese importers. |

muykem:China exported more than 24 billion dollars goods to Nigeria in 2025. |

This policy has been dissected and has been found to be a trojan horse. Africa does not export ANY manufactured product to China. Theonly thnigs that would be leaving the shores of Nigeria to China are the minerals; Lithium, Copper, Gold etc whch Chinese entrepreneurs have successfully dominated inthe country already. This policy only makes it far easier to export now. But see uninformed Nigeriians celebrating. |

tctrills:Ignore those dullards, the trade deficit between the two countries is too much, there's absolutely no significant benefit to Nigeria. |

Flangelo12:You don't get it, it's more noise and politics than business and growth. Before now, Mineral Fuels & Oils (Crude & Gas) made up 82.3% and the tariff was 0% So we can say that really, Notting happened. The remaining 18% of our exports were tariffed at about 5%. So very little changes. Also our entire export to china was just over 2 billion dollars nothing significant in global terms. Let's not throw a party for no Reason. |

China will come here, setup factory, use Nigeria as cheap labour and export raw materials without tariff home and away. Who do is this thing abeg? |

China imports a wide range of raw materials from different parts of Nigeria, and these resources actually come from specific states across the country. The bulk of it is crude oil and natural gas, which mainly come from oil-producing states like Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Edo, and Ondo. These regions form the backbone of Nigeria’s exports to China. In addition, China also imports solid minerals such as iron ore, gold, lithium, and limestone from states like Kogi, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Zamfara, and Ogun, which are used for construction and industrial production. On the agricultural side, products like sesame seeds, soybeans, maize, cocoa, and rubber are sourced from states such as Benue, Niger, Kano, Kaduna, Taraba, Oyo, and Cross River. Timber and wood also come from forest-rich states like Cross River, Edo, and Ondo, while hides and skins are mainly supplied from northern states like Kano, Sokoto, and Borno. Overall, Nigeria supplies China largely with raw and unprocessed materials from across its regions, highlighting the country’s strong natural resource base but also the need for more local processing and industrial development. |

Making these exports tariff-free may sound like a good deal on the surface, but in reality, it mostly benefits China more than Nigeria. By removing tariffs on raw materials like crude oil, minerals, and agricultural products, China is able to source inputs at a cheaper rate, which directly lowers their cost of production. This gives their industries an even bigger advantage, as they can manufacture goods more cheaply and remain highly competitive in global markets—while Nigeria continues exporting mostly unprocessed resources with limited value added. In contrast, Nigeria gains very little beyond increased export volume, because the real profits are made during processing and manufacturing. Instead of strengthening local industries, tariff-free exports can actually discourage domestic production and industrial growth. In the long run, this kind of arrangement risks keeping Nigeria in a cycle of supplying cheap raw materials while importing expensive finished goods, ultimately widening the economic gap rather than closing it. |

Vision101:Babablu bulabu. The comment is sarcasm to show the news is nothing to celebrate. Secondly if Nigeria was exporting 30 billion dollars goods to China, do you think China will say Nigeria should not pay import duties? You know nothing about economy. |
| Re: China Agrees Zero Tariff On Nigeria’s Export From May 1 by laivwire(m): 10:08pm On Mar 31 |
Flangelo12:How about coming to establish big manufacturing and processing factories in Nigeria where we can process our raw materials and export. Our youths will also be gainifully employed, trained and research supported to manufacture products suited for our conditions? All we get is extraction of our minerals for export or import of CKD vehicle parts to be assembled in Nigeria and sold to Nigerians and the funds exported back to China as well. |

This is a good development if implemented. Although, we don't seem to have raw materials to export to China, but this is a good signal to the Chinese to encourage a good trade exchange. It's also a good signal to other nations looking to collaborate with Nigeria. It gives a sense of 0% tariff on the raw materials they need, even when they may not get the 0% because China has a long standing relationship with Nigeria and the other counties probably don't have such relationship to leverage on. |
