Gentlelife50:1, The power sector is not owned by government 2.I am suggesting ways for the power sector to make the kind of money that they need to give you good service. yet keeps making excuses for their incompetence and failures.Saying that the government maintains price controls on the power sector , thus preventing them from making a profit , is not a ringing endorsement of the government either. A lot of communist countries used to do what tinubu is doing...set prices for their food, electricity and so forth. Result was scarcity, failures and eventual collapse of the country. Seems you want Nigeria to collapse into economic anarchy because you want everything free of charge....and you also want the government to set the prices of your business so that the poor can breathe. He is becoming becoming becoming annoying with this his mantra.Well, as some wise old gat once said, you can let the birds fly over your head, but you can prevent them from building a nest in your head. The choice is up to you, sonny. Cost reflective tarrifs. |

nairalanda1:Are you not tired of saying all these fine theories , when you know it cant work in Nigeria? Ordinary fuel deregulation that BAT did , most people already hate him and are crying things are hard , you now want full deregulation of power sector , there will be war ! The problem with Nigeria is each government failed to do what they should have done during their tenure due to vested interests, obj and Tinubu are the only ones who have attempted significant reforms that will revamp Nigeria, Yar' adua came and reversed the sale of refinery Gej did half hearted power sector privatisation and even sacked barth for trying to correct it . Buhari didn't even bother to do any reforms he just took loans to keep Nigerians ajd vested interests happy . |

Tinubu alone knew why he is keeping Adelabu...because they both think alike and have nothing to offer Nigerians! ![]() |

benardtotti:So you want us to take more loans to pay for improvements in the power sector Thankfully Obasanjo didn't have that idea about GSM sector. Cost reflective tarrifs |

nairalanda1:Tinubu will deregulate fully but only after outstanding bills have been paid , read the article again he has already setup an spv GAMCO to sustain the coming reform. |
| Re: Nigeria’s Power Sector Crisis: Pressure Mounts On Tinubu To Sack Adelabu by nairalanda1(m): 3:17pm On Mar 31 |
benardtotti:Why can't he do it now? That's why I don't like your party and your leadership. It doesn't make decisions that would leave a legacy, it makes decisions that would guarantee elections. Let the government deregulate now, and also outstanding bills can be settled at the same time. Or must we wait until financal crisis forces a deregulation on us, like for fuel? |

nairalanda1:what i am trying to say is even in some states band A users are getting 0hrs of light because the Discos there are not being given light to distribute, this isnt because they are owing alone but because less electricity is being generated. This isn't a time to brag about who has light and who doesn't but to raise awareness that as a country continous effort should be put by the government to increase the state of electricity. |
| Re: Nigeria’s Power Sector Crisis: Pressure Mounts On Tinubu To Sack Adelabu by nairalanda1(m): 3:20pm On Mar 31 |
chinex11:Yes, and less electricity is being generated because the sector , due to lack of cost reflective tarrifs, loses money and has been losing money for decades, even before privatisation. Things have reached critical mass because the gas companies are owed a lot of money. And even if government pays off their share of thedebt it won't fix much of anything. |

Richtaiwo:i have no issue with you sharing your experience but you making it feel like others who don't have electricity currently is at fault is where i draw the line. |

GeneralOuki:Certainly, you should know you can't make me disclose my residence. You can never get my personal information. Try harder, even with blackmail, it won't work. You are free to say I'm lying, that's your business. |

Ray07:If I worked for the discos, then your name must be Meaghan Markle Mountbatten-WIndsor. See the daylight robbery from the pic I attached. I weep for Nigerians.Yep, daylight robbery which happens because...lack of cost refelctive tarrifs. Like I said, discos are losing money. When they are forced to lose money because of government laws preventing them from charging a cost reflective tarrif via legal means , they will resort to illegal means to make money Happens every time there is price controls in place. In most former communist countries, food prices were set by the state. The result was chronic food shortages, and long queues at shops, and empty shelves. Meanwhile, in the black market, the same foods were there in abundance, at illicit high prices. If you were selling bread at say N2000 a loaf, which would be enough to give you a living, and the government came and forced you to sell it at N200 per loaf, how would you survive? You will sell the bread illegally on the black market at inflated prices. Same thing in the power sector. They make a profit by ripping off consumers because the government is forcing them to charge loss making prices, then add power theft. (which is why you should not clap for people who chase disco workers away...they are part of the problem). |
