*A MUSLIM'S SIX RIGHTS ON A FELLOW MUSLIM*

Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "The Muslim has six rights:
*(1)* When you meet him, you should greet him.
*(2)* When he invites you, you should accept his invitation.
*(3)* When he asks you for counsel, you should counsel him.
*(4)* When he sneezes and praises Allah, you should bless him.
*(5)* When he is ill, you should visit him and
*(6)* When he dies, you should follow his funeral procession. *[Sahih Muslim]*

How many of these do you consider another Muslim's right upon you? Please, ask yourself:

*(1)* Do you greet other Muslims whenever you come across them, whether you know them or not?

*(2)* Do you accept invitations from Muslims or do you reject the invitations of those you consider “beneath” you? To view yourself as superior because of what Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) has bestowed upon you is an act of arrogance, one of the major sins in Islam.

To keep away from events where Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) is disobeyed is commendable and a Muslim should not participate in disobedience to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) because of having been “invited” by another.

*(3)* Do you give sincere advice when asked, putting yourself in your Muslim brother/sister’s shoes? If not, this is a betrayal of trust and a form of lying.

*(4)* When a Muslim sneezes and says 'Alhamdulillah' do you say 'Yarhamakullah'?

*(5)* Do you visit or at least call, when you hear of a Muslim's illness?

*(6)* Do you take time out to join the funeral of a Muslim when he/she dies?

These are required of you. This means that doing these earns sawaab/hasanaat for you, while neglecting them accrues sins for you.

We Pray Allah to continue to guard and guide us Aright, Protect us, Have Mercy on us, Increase us in Knowledge, Provisions and Piety and Enable us become better MUSLIMS, better NIGERIANS.
