They will come with the camouflage of populist ideas but before you know it they will begin showing their true colours suppressing dissenting views and oppositions to prolong their hold on power. |

HausaIgboYoruba:Their isn't any. Its' a dictatorship dressed as a democracy where different sets of the elite can take turns stealing oil money. It's a dictatorship of the rich/elite. |

bewla:Democracy is not the problem but the institutions sustaining it & the people practicing it. Because of poverty, politics in some African countries including Nigeria is monitized. The ethno-religious sentiments worsens the situation. Autocracy & military dictatorship is not a solution. It's usually breeds discontent & revolutionary ideas. At the end of the day, it may result in civil crises or wars. |

Lanretoye:to hell with your so called freedom of citizens and press.. as long as the citizens are well taken care of, enjoying the collective wealth of their nation and living in safety.. they will be fine. Nigeria that's practicing useless democracy for many years, what have the citizens enjoyed? Poverty and constant killings. Africans don't need democracy. |
| Re: Captain Ibrahim Traoré Says Burkina Faso Must 'forget' About Democracy by Ajsmart(m): 4:28pm On Apr 04 |
It if works for him and his country then who are we to disagree? Democracy as practised in African nations and indeed the U.S has proved over and over that as long as politicians are in charge, corruption and blood shed trails behind. |
| Re: Captain Ibrahim Traoré Says Burkina Faso Must 'forget' About Democracy by CaseSensitive(m): 4:30pm On Apr 04 |
I agree with him, democracy is NOT for Africa. Vietnam, Singapore, China knows better. Democracy is the sure fire way for Africa's regression. |

SeizeTheMemes:so you prefer if Nigeria has a leader with absolute power? A leader that can kill anyone and no one questions him. Right? Do you need a dictator before you can develop as a country? Is democracy the reason why African leaders cannot take good care of their people? You see say you are not making sense |

HausaIgboYoruba:This is very apt, a trillion Naira to be spent on election when all opposition is being stifled, this democracy is a scam. 93 years old Paul Biya of Cameroon who has ruled for 46 years and kept that country in poverty is a Democrat while Gaddafi who turned Libya into the most prosperous country in Africa was a dictator |

/ Democracy in West Africa and Sahel region is the worst form of government. If what is being practiced in Nigeria is "democracy", then that word should be erased from the dictionary. Once you educate a Nigerian, s/he starts using words s/he doesn't understand. That's how I view "democracy" in Nigeria. / |

funsho75:The truth, you guys are really children. That is the beginning of the end of everything, very soon, it will either become an inheritance or bloodbath among the military. |
| Re: Captain Ibrahim Traoré Says Burkina Faso Must 'forget' About Democracy by SeizeTheMemes: 5:11pm On Apr 04 |
HardMirror:If that leader actually worked to develop the country and build industry, yes. Also most "dictatorships" are not run by a single person. China is run by the CPC, Russia is run by the united Russia party, The USSR by the politburo. Likewise for the AES states. No leader can just snap their fingers and disappear people without approval from these institutions. They don't have supreme power. Democracy isn't the reason why we have bad leadership. The reason is a structural problem that needs to be uprooted and it's unlikely a democracy can produce such without that movement being co opted or destroyed. If a military "dictator" uproots the rot, then I'm fine with it. |

Judolisco:But in the case of Nigeria, the military regime were far more better than the civilian rule that we have now. At least the military regime were able to curb insecurity to it barest minimum and never imposed a sudden hardship on the people in the name of propaganda reforms or change that is not happening. At least security of life and properties is the best thing any government in the world can give to his people especially the helpless common citizens. But over here in Nigeria, security of life and properties has become a joke since the politicians took over government in the name of democracy which even they the politicians are not practicing. |
