ADC Crisis: Coalition Leaders Eye NDC, APP As Fallback Options by fergie001(mod): 10:15pm On Apr 04
Barring last-minute changes, key opposition figures in Nigeria are weighing the possibility of abandoning the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for alternative platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Top politicians, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, are said to be involved in high-level consultations following a leadership crisis that has engulfed the ADC.

The development comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspended recognition of all factions of the party’s leadership. The decision followed a ruling by the Court of Appeal and ongoing litigation over the party’s internal structure.

Political insiders warn that the crisis could cripple the ADC’s ability to participate in the 2027 elections, including fielding candidates for presidential, governorship, and legislative positions.

Sources close to the developments allege that the legal battles surrounding the party may extend beyond its primaries and the submission deadline for party registers—effectively placing any ADC candidate at a significant disadvantage.

“If this crisis continues and members contest under the ADC, and the party eventually loses recognition, they cannot simply defect to another party afterward,” a source familiar with the matter said.

With INEC refusing to recognize any faction, conventions or congresses conducted under the disputed leadership risk being declared invalid.

The uncertainty has triggered emergency consultations among opposition leaders. Meetings are expected to take place in Abuja shortly after the Easter period, where stakeholders will deliberate on a viable political strategy.

Analysts say the timing of the party register submission deadline is critical and may have been used as a tactical pressure point in the unfolding crisis.
Alternative platforms under consideration.

As a fallback, opposition leaders are reportedly evaluating two relatively stable political platforms:
Action Peoples Party (APP):
Considered structurally stable since its formation, the party currently holds limited representation in the National Assembly, including seats occupied by Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere and Hon. Matthew Nwaogu.

And the New Democratic Congress (NDC), a relatively new party promoted by former Bayelsa State governor Seriake Dickson. Though it has minimal parliamentary presence, it is free of internal leadership disputes.

Sources indicate that opposition leaders are approaching the situation with caution. Any decision on adopting a new party platform is expected to be kept confidential until the most strategic moment, to avoid alerting the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

High stakes for Nigeria’s political future
As the opposition navigates this complex political terrain, analysts believe their next move could significantly reshape the dynamics of the 2027 elections.

A unified front under a stable platform could strengthen their chances, while prolonged uncertainty within the ADC may weaken their position in what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.

Sensational news article. The NDC is out of the equation if at all. It was formed via a court order which will be quickly vacated once the opposition defects to the party. The ADC will be on the ballot come 2027. The good thing is that for the coalition, Nigerians are now even more determined to vote for them regardless of the political platform upon which they run but ADC will be the platform. Tinubu is becoming restless and desperate but 2027 is inevitable.

NDC? That will be suicidal.

About time they stop grandstanding and face the reality. ADC is gone. Otilo. NDC is looking like a low hanging fruit. It’s a brand new party with no leadership tussle. They should reach a good agreement with Seriake Dickson and move there. However, they should not forget to resign their membership of ADC while on the way out. We don’t want to hear Tinubu is doing you if your names appear on the register of both ADC and NDC.

That’s the only realistic option for now. It’s a new party with little or no problem. Just settle Dickson and they are good.

Its starting to look like a one candidate presidential election.

Probably what these governors saw that made them run to apc

This isnt really good for our democracy.

This happens in many other african countries where opposition is constantly put in disarray or disqualified from contesting

This simply shows how unserious the so-called "opposition" is at managing issues and overcoming challenges.

To imagine that these guys want to be president, but can not anticipate preventable missteps or even preempt the ruling parties' strategy is just plainly criminal. How will they manage Nigeria's problem if they can't manage ordinary party affairs?

Obi - failed in managing LP, ran away.
Atiku - failed in managing PDP, ran away.
Kwankwaso - failed in managing NNPP, ran away.
Amaechi - suffered PTSD post primaries in APC, ran away.

Bunch of jokers.....None of them are fit to be president.

Yeah political party prostitution should be a crime.

Its not done in other countries, and clearly causes problems and lawsuits. We need to have respect for political party memberships.

And we know the culprits. grin

You talk as if you own Nigeria. Your people are shopping for another party. Why are they always shopping and not owning? They lack conflict resolution ability for an institution as small as political party but they want us to hand over Nigeria's complex problem for them to resolve.

Can you see the difference between the management of the same APC under Buhari and the matured and sound management of the party under Tinubu?

Just exactly where Tinubu wants you to be guys.
He wants you on the ballot quite all right but after your house is put in disarray and you can't even coordinate yourself talkless of preparing for a general election. You are paperweights who are desperate to gain power after being in power for decades. The game is the game.
APC want you to come third in the coming elections after wike's PDP and that's bound to happen without any rigging. You will be on the ballot that's for sure but since there's no time for you to have any structure on ground, you don't even a manifesto yet, Sowore's party will do better than you next year.
Re: ADC Crisis: Coalition Leaders Eye NDC, APP As Fallback Options by eazzzy1(m): 10:47pm On Apr 04
They chose ADC because of the similarities in name with APC. Of course their next step is APP or whatever shares at least two alphabets with the APC.

Anywhere they move, APC will follow. 200billion is the budget earmarked for destruction of the coalition. Less than 20 billion had been spent so far
