If you are into research in engineering and science, you might find it useful. A lot Nigerians only care about making money hence they might feel that this is useless, forgetting that the technology they use daily are based on things like this equation. |

GanagiBitrus:I’ll agree with you on the curriculum point. However, I may not have used quadratic curves directly in real life, the basic knowledge is still helpful for understanding statistics. Without these fundamentals, many people may struggle with graphs and interpretation. |

HacheNoire:The only thing you people know about medicine is Cadavers which is only use for just 18 mths of the whole 6yrs for just Anatomy class which is just one of 16 subjects viz Human Anatomy ,Human physiology,Human biochemistry,Histo-Pathology,Chemical Pathology,Haematology, paediatrics,Obstretrics and gyneacology,Internal Medicine,Surgery, forensic Medicine,Family practice and Community Medicine.Back to the Curve, that curve can be found in any science related course. You will encounter it in human physiology when you talk of nerve conduction action potentials more like chemical concentrations in and out of nerve cells against the nerve voltage....In epidemiology,a branch of communuty medicine we talk about epi curve to intrapolate and extrapolate the spread of disease. Each group of disease tend to have different epidemiological curve. In a nutshell,Medicine practical is beyond the use of cadaver. Also, mathematics is virtually used in all fields, except if you dont do research at all.In research, you will used statistics which is a branch of mathematics. |

rufonye:Most Nigerian students dont carry out their project, dissertation and thesis themselves. How will you be a graduate and you conduct an accademic reseach successfully to qualify you for that degree without using charts and curves especially in science related field. For example, for us in medicine, you cant predict the gross possible outcome of a disease without using logistic regression as a researcher. |

Keziehenry:I thought it's by factorisation, completing the square and formula. I guess I forgot you can also used a graph sheet to solve it. |

Trend analysis is a very important tool in troubleshooting and any form of investigation. it helps to determine when something suddenly goes out of proportion. |

Eriokanmi:Have you ever heard about Machine learning, Deep Learning and Agentic AI, what about Linear regression? Una dey cap nonsense sometimes sha. People are using this knowledge to cash out in Technology, u dey waste all your resourceful time on nairaland, only to be blaming the Government. Here are very real situations where it’s essential: Physics: velocity is of position with respect to time Economics: marginal cost and marginal revenue use derivatives Engineering: optimizing systems, signal processing, control systems Machine Learning & Data Science: training models relies heavily on derivatives (gradient descent) Biology: modeling population growth and spread of diseases So it’s not “never applicable”—it’s actually everywhere once you start modeling change. |

Of course. Sometimes you put your records on a chart form so you see a trend, Excel does the job pretty well. It helps to capture a trend so you know where exactly you are having issues and what to improve. |

Many times, I come to the conclusion that all the years we spent in school were to ensure that we didn’t reproduce like rabbits. It’s why illiterates use the act as a sport and countries with high literacy birth less. |
| Re: Have You Ever Made Use Of This Since You Graduated? by meobizy(m): 10:10am On Apr 05 |
Never. Simple arithmetics have been more useful. The thing these days is a distant memory which should be overwritten with a skill. |

Keziehenry:Everything you learn in school is not meant for real life application. They are meant to test & expand your brain capacity and reasoning. When the brain is well tested, it becomes easier to apply it to solving complex tasks in real life. Unfortunately, most jobs in Nigeria don't really require tasking the brain. We leave almost everything to God. If you try to 'push' yourself in a workplace, your colleagues may even call you oversabi. The brain then start to die slowly and thats why we rarely innovate or invent in Nigeria. |

BOOKWORMLUX:In as much as school can help a lot when it comes to reshaping someone's thoughts process......it isn't a guarantee....many graduates today are a good as illiterate(if not worse) in this country when it comes to how someone thinks.....that been said, any illiterate that has passion for whatsoever he is willing to be taught will most likely achieve similar results or even much more compared to someone who was well educated in that field. |
