Terrorists have attacked Ariko community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, targeting two Christian worship centres during Easter celebrations, killing at least seven persons and abducting several others.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, threw the community into panic.

The councillor representing Awon Ward, under which Ariko District falls, Mark Bawa, confirmed the attack to PUNCH Online on Sunday via phone call.

According to him, the affected churches are First ECWA Church and St. Augustine Catholic Church, both located in Ariko.

“I am currently on my way to the community to ascertain the exact number of casualties. Some sources said seven persons were killed, while others claimed eight. I will provide an update once details are confirmed,” Bawa said.

He added that poor telecommunications coverage in the area may have allowed the attackers to carry out the assault without immediate response.

“The attackers came in large numbers. They surrounded the area and began shooting sporadically at worshippers. Several people were killed, and many others were taken away into the bush,” he stated.

Residents said the assailants operated for a prolonged period without resistance, raising further concerns about the vulnerability of rural communities in the state.

The latest attack comes barely two months after a similar incident in the Kurmin Wali community, also in Kachia LGA, where scores of worshippers were abducted during a church gathering in February 2026.

That incident sparked outrage and renewed calls for an improved security presence in Southern Kaduna.

When contacted, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Mansir Hassan, said he would provide further details regarding the tragic incident.

Observers noted that the recurring attacks highlight the persistent security challenges facing rural communities in Southern Kaduna, particularly during religious gatherings and festive periods.

Kidnapping stories don't even shock us again; it’s like a daily routine. Everyone is just "waiting for their turn" in this jungle. You can't even feel safe in a gathering or on the highway anymore.

All these radicalized almajiris are the result of a deliberate plan to shun civilization and Western education. They want a society where chaos is the order of the day. The influence of a certain foreign culture and languages has brought more sorrow than progress to this land.

Our Christian leaders are more interested in tithes, massive buildings and number of worshippers. They aren't seeing the big picture.

No one is pushing for the protection of Christians.

The tactics is simply, attack them multiple times then they abandon their villages and cities one by one, full Christian communities will turn to ghost town then Fulani enclave.

Christians should form their own terrorist group either to protect themselves or to attack their attackers.

Folding of hands and crying to the government has never helped, even when a Christian was in power.

There are times when the best form of defence is to attack.

Tinubu like the previous presidents have no capacity to fix the insecurity. No country has this level of terrorists dealing with her citiznes. They dey even laugh the president. He couldnt even enter Jos becus of fear.

I had reasons to study on the crises in the middle belt and I realized that the crises has been there since Islam jihads and the northward movement of Christianity from the south. Meaning this crises has been there over a century. The people in the middle belt are the reasons why we enjoy our Christianity down south. Successive government from 1960 till date have failed to protect the Christians in this region. Hence it's not all about Tinubu. They will win and continue to exist
