Just Yemi writes:

Myself and 3 other Nigerians have been unlawfully detained in Johannesburg airport for literally doing nothing, papers complete, visa valid and they literally just singled us out of the crowd for nothing, and onenof us's phone has been seized all day and hasn't been allowed to reach out to anyone. They are trying to take my own phone now, so I am putting this out so that the world knows that if anything happens to us, south Africa should be held responsible, please repost and tag the authorities concerned..

They are saying that they will detain us for no reason until God knows when.

We are telling them that we want to book another flight back home immediately and they are refusing that.

NIDCOM gives reason for deportation

NIDCOM Official Statement

Update on the Three Nigerians Stranded at South African Airport.

The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) is pleased to announce that the three Nigerian nationals who were stranded at a South African airport have been cleared and have departed South Africa. They are expected to arrive in Lagos tomorrow morning. While we welcome their safe return, NIDCOM notes with concern the circumstances that led to this unfortunate incident.

The core issue in many such cases stems from the over-reliance on unregulated visa agents. These agents often collect applicants’ passport data pages and complete sections of the visa application particularly on purpose of visit, itinerary, accommodation, and ties to Nigeria without the full knowledge or approval of the travellers. Consequently, many applicants are unable to defend the information provided when questioned during immigration interviews, resulting in entry refusal.

In this particular case, one of the individuals had previously posted insulting remarks about the South African government online. This had already placed him on their watchlist.
When confronted at the port of entry, he was unable to defend or substantiate those statements, which further aggravated the situation.

NIDCOM’s Advisory to All Nigerian Travellers:
1. Apply for visas directly or through only licensed and verifiable agents.Never allow any third party to fill sections of your application without your full review and approval.

2. Ensure every detail submitted is accurate and that you can personally explain and defend it during any immigration interview.

4. Be mindful of your digital footprint Immigration authorities, routinely conduct social media checks. Derogatory or inflammatory posts [about other countries or your home country] can lead to secondary screening or visa denial.

5. Always travel with genuine, well-documented reasons for your visit and carry all necessary supporting evidence.

NIDCOM will continue to monitor the situation and engage the relevant South African authorities to prevent recurrence of such incidents.

We strongly urge all Nigerians planning international travel to exercise due diligence. Responsible preparation protects not only the individual but also Nigeria’s reputation.

Nidcom thanks the Nigerian high commission in South Africa for their prompt intervention and will continue to follow up with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Nigerian high commission in South Africa.

Classic social-media headline outrage again.....targeted to a well known emotional populace

The headline says “South Africa refused entry to Nigerians” like it’s some diplomatic scandal. But the body of the story itself admits immigration flagged inconsistencies in their travel details, problems linked to how their applications were handled by agents, and even a watchlist issue related to prior online conduct. You insulted the government of the country online and you think the same government will grant you access to their country.....💁‍♀️🙆‍♀️🤔 mental illness ? Who thinks like this if not the most entitled people in Africa?

That’s not discrimination. That’s standard border control procedure anywhere in the world.

Even your own government didn’t accuse South Africa of wrongdoing. Instead, they advised their citizens to make sure their applications are correct and to comply with entry requirements before travelling.

South Africa is run by institutions, laws and immigration regulations......not emotion, pressure campaigns or propaganda headlines.

Follow the rules and enjoy the country. Try shortcuts, inconsistencies or social-media drama at a port of entry and the system will stop you. Simple as that. Perpetual victims. 🗑

Always justifying evil. Are you denying that South Africans don't want Nigerians in their country, did South Africa not attack Nigerians recently? See wickedness. These men reported that they were even begging to be let in not like they are criminals but your heartless people continued their heartless none African behavior against fellow Africans who helped during apartheid instead if letting them in your country. Would you do that to white South Africans?

Igbos run a lot of big and successful business over there ,so they are the backbone of the economy of that country if they leave that place will die a miserable death. These lazy people should be worshipping us if they were educated but they are illiterates who can't even speak english like us . This is the reason for all the hate and jealousy . They see us developing their country for them in ways they can't and they can't stop hating .

No country on earth allows people into its borders because they are “begging to be let in.”

South African border officials don’t answer to historical claims, emotional appeals or apartheid-era speeches. They answer to sovereignty and immigration law.

Airports run on regulations, not sympathy.

Even the Nigerian government did not accuse South Africa of discrimination . They advised their own citizens to make sure their applications are correct and to comply with entry requirements before travelling. That alone should tell you what really happened here.

Saying “South Africans don’t want Nigerians” doesn’t change the facts about this particular story. Immigration officers flagged inconsistencies in their travel details and there was even a watchlist issue mentioned in the report itself.

And the comparison with “white South Africans” makes no sense. Citizens do not need to explain why they are re-entering their own country. Foreign nationals do. That’s how borders work everywhere in the world.

You’re turning a routine immigration decision into an emotional story about apartheid and continental loyalty. That’s not how border control works. Stop posting emotionally and look at the facts.

A serious country have strong border control. Only Nigeria allow all sorts of animals in, jihadists, terrorists, beggars, suicide bombers...I wonder what we have immigration for. Nigerian immigration must do their job, their main job is keeping illegals and undocumented out of Nigeria. Chadians, Malians, Sudanese who are part of the jihadists territorists, enter Nigeria anyhow.

Those of you that were egging the South Africans on because you were happy they were destroying igbo owned shops can now see the futility of your naive positions..

We warned you but your village hate blinded you to simple reasons..
The victim here is Yemi. It will get to Abubakars soon...

I guess the Nigerian government will now rise up and speak up because the xenophobia is starting to hit "home".
Funny tribal champions in power..

The propaganda against a certain section of the country has been going on since tinubu took office and is mainly responsible for the developments in Ghana and in South Africa...

The thinking is that one section will bear the brunt of the fall out. No! We will all suffer it...

Hmm. You mean I should stay off the States for now given things I sometimes say about the clown at the White House.

It's sad that democratic countries do these things though. I mean, these are things you'd expect from Musolini, Traore or Kagame, not serious democracies like South Africa.
Re: South Africa Detains, Deports Three Nigerians by fasho01(m): 8:49am On Apr 06
The core of the issue is they could not defend what was written in their application form because an agent had completed it for them which made their visit suspicious and then one of them had previously insulted their government which was discovered from his digital footprint and couldn't substantiate his claim.

Lessons should be learned rather than reacting emotionally else this will keep happening.

Do not mind them. You disparage and curse a country yet want their land to bless you. That is foolishness. It can not happen!

You curse a land, it curses you back!

Every country is now conscious of what other nationals post online about their country.
Re: South Africa Detains, Deports Three Nigerians by Reference(m): 8:51am On Apr 06
I think South Africa should stop issuing visas to the Nigerian public so that both sides can have peace. It is clear the citizen of both countries dislike each other profoundly so just keep the cats out of the dogs reach.

And once again. Nigeria should develop it's own country. Look at the things you admire outside and fight for them back home.

If only the rule of law at our borders were this enforced for instance this country will have a whole heap of problems off her shoulders.

rest bro. I don't think there's no other Africa country that's more insulted than Nigeria, yet, you don't see us doing such things to other Africans. True ....but you’re skipping the most important parts of the report.

Those travellers were not refused entry because South Africans “don’t like Nigerians.” They were refused entry because immigration officials flagged inconsistencies at the point of entry, and even your own government confirmed one of them had prior online conduct targeting South Africa.

South Africa cannot legally turn people back just because of feelings. Border officials act on immigration law and sovereignty requirements.

That’s exactly why NIDCOM did not accuse South Africa of discrimination. Instead, they advised their own citizens to make sure their applications are correct and to comply with entry regulations before travelling.

So this was not a “they don’t like us” situation. It was a compliance issue at the border.

Their country, their entry rules.

People should learn decorum online and stop catching cruise unnecessarily as these have real life consequences when the information they peddle is false.

Also, the group could not defend the information given on their visa application which further raised concerns.

That's a good country that is defending their country's border and it's the right thing to do regardless of whose ox is gored

The South Africans and the South Africa authorities and administration itself , I believe are now over doing them selves.
This is what I call pure hate from south Africans unto Nigerians.

But let them be rest assured..their days are numbered and will receive the holy hands of justice very soon.

Democracy basically means the will of the people affecting leadership. The backlash of the government IS THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. It is exactly what the average South African wants, Nigerians out.

So I don't see the point in struggling against that sort of tidal wave. We did it too a few decades ago against Ghanians though with a lot less coercionm
