I don't think it's because they insulted the government. It's probably an investigation to be sure of their purpose of entry.
Given the antecedents of some bad eggs there who are always up to no good.

Reference:
Democracy basically means the will of the people affecting leadership. The backlash of the government IS THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE. It is exactly what the average South African wants, Nigerians out.

So I don't see the point in struggling against that sort of tidal wave. We did it too a few decades ago against Ghanians though with a lot less coercionm
Democracy is a standard. Democratic countries are expected to follow the law and due process always. (Is there a law in SA that makes it an offence to badmouth the Pretoria government? Or are they just copying Trumpian America?) That's why no democratic country would openly torture people or admit to using torture. They would also deny stifling freedom of expression. They're expected to comply with international law. It's more than what people on the street want.

On Ghanaians, I've seen this argument a few times. Ghanaians were not attacked on the streets by Nigerians. What happened was that the government deported West Africans who were residing here without papers. The government followed the law, but what Shagari did went completely against the spirit of African brotherhood and solidarity. He should not have done it.

True ....but you’re skipping the most important parts of the report.

Those travellers were not refused entry because South Africans “don’t like Nigerians.” They were refused entry because immigration officials flagged inconsistencies at the point of entry, and even your own government confirmed one of them had prior online conduct targeting South Africa.

South Africa cannot legally turn people back just because of feelings. Border officials act on immigration law and sovereignty requirements.

That’s exactly why NIDCOM did not accuse South Africa of discrimination. Instead, they advised their own citizens to make sure their applications are correct and to comply with entry regulations before travelling.

So this was not a “they don’t like us” situation. It was a compliance issue at the border.
Okay noted. Buts still Nigerians need to reduce their travel to south africa for either business or tourism... the tension is high and both country are not in good terms. Forget those official mumbo jumbo

Hmm. You mean I should stay off the States for now given things I sometimes say about the clown at the White House.

It's sad that democratic countries do these things though. I mean, these are things you'd expect from Musolini, Traore or Kagame, not serious democracies like South Africa.
If someone openly shows hostility toward a country’s government, it usually doesn’t stay limited to the government alone. That attitude often spills over toward the citizens who elected that government.

That’s exactly how social tension starts.

Border officials are not only enforcing immigration rules ... they are also protecting social stability at the point of entry. If a traveller has already shown strong public hostility toward the country and its leadership, it raises legitimate concerns about whether they are coming in good faith.

In situations like that, it’s actually wiser to avoid travelling there rather than risk unnecessary conflict with the people of that country.

That’s not dictatorship. That’s protecting social cohesion.

This is what I've always talked about. Online insults can come to hunt you after many years. I'm sure that guy might never have thought he would, one day, be on his way to South Africa.

Restraining yourself online, even in the face of provocation, is paramount because your digital footprint is an integral part of the identity. You don't go about insulting people, institutions or government would not do you any good. Instead, it will put you under some radar you might not even be aware of until the day that God says your cup is full.

This should be an eye opener, especially for the obidients. I'm not begging you to change your ways but it's a mere advice, an unsolicited one at that.

Classic social-media headline outrage again.....targeted to a well known emotional populace

The headline says “South Africa refused entry to Nigerians” like it’s some diplomatic scandal. But the body of the story itself admits immigration flagged inconsistencies in their travel details, problems linked to how their applications were handled by agents, and even a watchlist issue related to prior online conduct. You insulted the government of the country online and you think the same government will grant you access to their country.....💁‍♀️🙆‍♀️🤔 mental illness ? Who thinks like this if not the most entitled people in Africa?

That’s not discrimination. That’s standard border control procedure anywhere in the world.

Even your own government didn’t accuse South Africa of wrongdoing. Instead, they advised their citizens to make sure their applications are correct and to comply with entry requirements before travelling.

South Africa is run by institutions, laws and immigration regulations......not emotion, pressure campaigns or propaganda headlines.

Follow the rules and enjoy the country. Try shortcuts, inconsistencies or social-media drama at a port of entry and the system will stop you. Simple as that. Perpetual victims. 🗑
You are wrong. This also happened to me, my wife and one other Nigerian when I went to SA. We were the only Nigerians on the flight and only three of us were stopped. They detained us there for hours for no reason, before finally letting us go. Pls when people tell their stories don't be quick to dismiss it. Because one day it may happen to U then U will know how it feels.

Hmmm..... Immigration tells you are being detained ... you're telling them they should allow you to look a flight back to Nigeria ....and upset when they didn't. No respect for law and order. I'm almost sure he was stopped by a Nigerian Police ...his phone illegally taken and searched....and he didn't complain.

And U that is asking, how many things have U reported to Nigerian govthuh How many did they answer Uhuh

The funny thing is that it was only black SA officials that were on duty. All of them black and they are the ones that hate Nigerians the most. Simply out of envy. But also the ones that beg Nigerians for money in the airports.

I'm trying to link your rant (the Eze of Eastern Cape) to the issues raised in the post.
You struggled with it because you have a jaundiced mindset... Sorry!

There is a general anti Nigeria campaign going on all over South Africa as we speak.
You need no one to tell you that folks at the borders over there have been told to tighten up checks against the green passport, and that such instructions follow a pattern now established to assuage the fiery emotions of South Africas xenophobic bunch!

The question here is: who are those restless ethnic champions from Nigeria who in their quest to stamp an ethnic identity to crimes committed by some Nigerians in South Africa, ended up tarnishing the image of a country of over 200 million peoplehuh

I should provide you with the answers?
It is the APC Internet hirelings ably marshalled and commanded by one irritating Bayo Onanuga! Their stock in trade is to whip up all sorts of tribal narratives against the easternerd just to divide the country so that their drug lord of a president will win a second term...
It is backfiring...,big time too!

That's what is going on...
Now, pay me for breaking it down for you...

Always justifying evil. Are you denying that South Africans don't want Nigerians in their country, did South Africa not attack Nigerians recently? See wickedness. These men reported that they were even begging to be let in not like they are criminals but your heartless people continued their heartless none African behavior against fellow Africans who helped during apartheid instead if letting them in your country. Would you do that to white South Africans?
You didn't read NIDCOM's response.

1.One of the guys used a travel agent who filled stuff that the guy could not defend to SA immigration authorites. It is like someone getting a visa for say tourism, and then when asked by immigration about it, starts giving strange answers.

2. Another one said disparging things about South Africa online. That is a red flag to most countries (see the Iranians who are being deported from America despite being green card holders because they made comments mocking dead US soldiers.).

And you think that Nigeria would let them in if they applied for visa.?

I have a relative who became a US citizen about 2 years ago, after being a green card holder for years. In private she has told me she doesn't like trump. IN PUBLIC....nothing politics on her social media.for years when she was just a green card holder. Zero, zilch, nothing. Especially during Trump's first term.NO one knows tomorrow.

Be careful how you talk BS about other countries. You never can tell when your status will change and you will have the means to travel around . You will visit those countries and they will deport your ass . The Iranian generals niece said BS about US while living like a princess ( something she could not do in Iran ) , she is about to be deported ! Respect your host ! Don’t go to a place and be arrogant to your hosts. They will overwhelm you with their size if they have reasons to come for you . This is for our brothers and their loud mouths .

I hope Nigeria is also checking immigrants SM signatures before granting visas ? Oh I forgot our borders are so porous that a 20 storey dinosaur can walk through and it will not be detected

You must be a South African. It is understandable that you guys just love trending and wanting to be the topic for discussion.

Our problem with you guys is stop being miserable and Barbaric and try heal from your past wounds. If you guys don’t behave cruel with physical assault on your African brothers, no one will want to drag you all for it.

You don't compare your country to another. How many South Africans come to Nigeria for greener pasture? We're the ones always wanting to japa. You too can insult any country you want, provided you would never need to go near their borders. But who knows tomorrow!

You might insult Japan today, thinking you would never need them, only for an ample opportunity to come up in 10 years time that requires that you travel there and you get the visa and everything, only for your old insulting tweets to lift up it's face and wait for you at the immigration point of entry.

The bottom line is take your digital footprint seriously. We're in the technology age, so we should evolve so we're not caught up in the middle.

When there was no social media in those days, your insults doesn't go beyond your environment but now, the whole world is seeing what you put out online.

Let's all be guided.

I wrote this above: Is there a law in SA that makes it an offence to badmouth the Pretoria government? Or are they just copying Trumpian America?

You make a fair point. So it'd be interesting to see what this guy actually said - is it something capable of disrupting the peace (e.g., expressing HATE towards a group) or is it a simple opinion expressing his unhappiness about certain things the Pretoria government did? Were these border officials acting in the public interest of South Africa or were they just expressing some deep-seated anti-Nigeria feelings?

Personally, i have never expressed hate towards anyone. So if anytime I want to travel, I have to start racking my brain or checking my old posts for any criticism I made about an action taken by the president or government of the country I'm about to travel to, that'd be a very unpleasant situation. And it's something I'd always expected and would expect from a dictatorial country.
