FIGHT AGAINST INTERNET SCAM's The missed call scam that tricks people into calling back You see a missed call from an unknown number. It may only ring once and stop. Curiosity kicks in, so you call back to see who it was. The call connects, and you may hear a message, music, or silence. What is happening in the background is billing. These numbers are often premium rate lines. The longer you stay on the call, the more charges build up without you realizing it. In some cases, the number looks like it is from another country or even appears local due to number spoofing. Many people return the call thinking it could be important, especially if they are expecting a call from someone. The safest move is simple. Do not call back unknown numbers, especially if they only rang once. If it is important, the person will leave a message or contact you again. Ignoring that one missed call can save you from unnecessary charges.” - Brandon Hartman, Quora |

brain54:Someone abroad who has an important message to discuss with you won't flash or drop a beep call for you to call back. If a million people keep wasting 5-10 seconds of their airtime to call a random foreign number, that's a massive cash out for those crazy scammers. We need to stop enriching those scammers unknowingly. |

Usmanovic95:The op never mentioned flash... He said ring once and stop. calls especially international calls also have high chances of drop rate. Someone can be calling several times meanwhile the call on your end is dropping. I make international calls frequently and I am talking from practical experience. If the 5 seconds call (from a million random people ![]() Too much of everything can be bad and expensive in the end. If it happens 2 or 3 times then you know the game and can block or report the number and be more careful seeing the same or similar number in the future. 10 secs have never killed anyone but it can be 10 life changing seconds. I guess you don't want to enrich anyone from your pocket. Keep it up if that's your phylosophy ![]() They are international numbers from certain countries I would never ignore. Because I sometimes receive calls from those places. Like I said stinginess can sometimes have its consequences. 5 secs might not do much harm to your pocket but it can make you loose important opportunities if careless! |
