Boy Who Saved Gen. Amgbazo at 13 Becomes Army Captain, Marries
On September 17, 2006, I survived a tragic Nigerian Army aircraft crash over Benue Valley. In that moment of uncertainty, help came from the most unexpected place—a 13-year-old boy from Mbakunu in Kwande LGA of Benue State.

His name was Detimbir Chia. Untrained, unprepared, yet courageous, he played a critical role in saving my live that day. I made a decision then: such courage must not go unnoticed. I took responsibility for his future and supported his journey into the Nigerian Army.

Yesterday, April 4, 2026, I stood in honor as that same young boy - now Captain Chia- got married. From a crash site in 2006 to a wedding altar in 2026. 20 years of destiny. From a brave village boy to a decorated officer of the Nigerian Army.

This is not just a story of survival. It is a story of destiny, opportunity, and what happens when we invest in people.

I am proud of the man he has become.
Also glad to share this special moment with distinguished personalities, including former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam.Indeed, some encounters are not accidents - they are divine appointments.

Though that Donnier 228 crash that happened enroute Obudu Cattle Ranch in Cross River state took down a whole lots of the top echelon of the then senior military officers, the captain; then a young boy was the first person to locate the crash site and alert authorities.

Fate had plans for him. He was privileged to enlist into the NDA to fulfilled his life ambition of becoming an army officer. Today a captain. Then to crown it all, a beautiful wife to compliment this journey in life.

And so, may your marriage be bless some more captain. May the Almighty protect and preserve your young family. Above all, may you climb higher in your career IJN. HML sir

POC: He wasn’t the first to locate the site,he was amongst a rescue team who went into the farmlands after the crash and when they got to the crash site, he was the most knowledgeable of the lot as he was the only person who knew how to operate a mobile phone and he used it to call for help, hence his acknowledged heroism. Las, las, we’re all proud of him and must also acknowledge the people who stood by him all these years and made his dream a reality. Like he said, some encounters aren’t accidents but divine appointments

That’s the way it should be. Eternal gratefulness.
The boy was at the right place at the right time, to meet the right man who would guarantee his greatness.

Hopefully destiny makes the young man a General in the Nigerian army.

Thank you to the retired General who saw the future, even though invisibly and played his role to achieve it.

I can Major Gen Angbazo then colonel whom visited us in school after his treatment in South Africa. He was healing from leg amputation then.

Ideally minors should not be around accident sites, but in this case it turned out for good.
