The Nigerian military has intensified its stranglehold on insurgency within Plateau State, delivering a crushing blow to criminal networks through a series of high-stakes clearance missions.

Under the specialized mandate of Operation WUTAN DAJI, a joint force of troops from Operation ENDURING PEACE and local vigilantes, successfully neutralized multiple terrorists and dismantled fortified hideouts across several local government areas during an intensive weekend offensive.

The coordinated crackdown launched on April 4, 2026, centering on the notorious insurgent corridors of Babangida, Adua, and Bokayi villages nestled deep within the Dutsen Zaki forest.

According to Captain Chinonso Oteh, spokesperson for Operation Enduring Peace, the mission escalated into a fierce firefight on the Babangida–Adua road.

"The military’s superior firepower resulted in the immediate neutralization of two suspects, while the remaining insurgents fled into the thick forest undergrowth, trailing blood from various gunshot wounds", Oteh said.

He Continued: "Following the skirmish, troops recovered a grim haul of weaponry, including a belt of 105 rounds of PKT ammunition, 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a weaponized cutlass.

"The momentum carried into the early hours of Sunday, April 5, as intelligence-led operations shifted to the Namu District of Qua’an Pan and at approximately 7:45 am, troops intercepted four suspected terrorists carrying 100 rounds of specialized ammunition", he said.

The statement said however, the unit came under heavy fire from the suspects' associates while attempting to locate their base, informing that during the crossfire, three of the apprehended suspects were killed by the very bullets fired by their own fleeing comrades in a desperate, failed escape attempt.

In a related development at Shendam LGA at about 9:35 am, the statement said, a collaborative effort between soldiers and alert residents led to the capture of a suspected kidnapper at Gidan Mangoro village, believed to be the mastermind behind a recent abduction.

As the suspect remains in custody for interrogation, Oteh reaffirmed that these victories highlight the military's unwavering resolve to restore order.

While clearance operations continue to sweep the region, the high command is urging citizens to maintain vigilance and provide critical intelligence needed to apprehend bandits, Oteh said.
