How do I get a good and responsive e-commerce website. UPDATED by living2013(op):
Few years back, I tried using WordPress/woo commerce to build my e-commerce website, but my challenge is that it doesn't load fast, off which I got discouraged.

Right now, I am very much serious about getting a good e-commerce website that is mobile-responsive, fast loading times, secure checkout, and clear, easy-to-find navigation.

Am into mini importation and import different products. The website is very important to me now

Recently, I started thinking of using Shopify. However, I really don't know the pros and cons of the platform except the monthly high cost.

Please, am using this opportunity to solicit for guidance from experienced webmasters in this forum. Your suggestion/guild can go a long way for me. Thanks

UPDATE

Am building the website already over a week now. The big problem am having now is that the website is not accessible in Nigeria. I can only access with VPN. I have chatted with Shopify customer support, who said he reload the url and gave me 24 - 48hours for it to start working. Till now it is still not accessible. I even used friends phone to check and it's not working.

What could be the issue?

Based on your experience with slow WordPress/WooCommerce sites and your focus on speed, security, and mobile responsiveness for mini-importation, switching to Shopify is a logical step. Shopify is designed as a "hosted" platform, meaning they manage the servers, security, and speed optimization, allowing you to focus on selling.

No, Wordpress website aren’t slow!
Your theme and your plugins especially caused it, over 10years using wordpress
And building ecommerce/WooCommerce on wordpress requires a lot plugins and trust me those plugins are the ones slowing the website.
If he is observant enough, I’m sure its just one or rarely two plugins are the ones causing the web being slow.

I still support you on custom built for e-commerce.

you must adopt a mobile-first approach, optimizing for fast loading times (<2-3 seconds), and employing flexible grids and utilize platforms like Shopify or Wix for easy, mobile-optimized templates.

I totally get where you are coming from. That WooCommerce "slow motion" can really frustrate someone, especially when you are running ads and customers are clicking away because the page won't load.

If you are serious about dropshipping and mini-importation, Shopify is actually the better move, and here is why:

Speed is Built-in: Unlike WordPress where you are fighting with plugins and heavy themes to get a good score, Shopify is hosted on their own high-speed servers. It is lightning fast out of the box, which is what you need for mobile users in Nigeria.

Security is Not Your Problem: With WooCommerce, you are responsible for your own SSL, security patches, and preventing hacks. Shopify handles all that. Your checkout is PCI-compliant from day one, so your customers' data is safe without you lifting a finger.

Zero Maintenance Headache: You won't wake up to find your site "broken" because a plugin updated itself overnight. Everything just works.

Built for Conversion: Their checkout process is one of the best in the world. It is designed to make people finish their purchase, not get stuck.

While the monthly cost looks high on paper, if you calculate the cost of premium hosting, security plugins, and the time you waste fixing WordPress errors, Shopify actually saves you money and a lot of stress.

The only real "con" is getting the initial setup and configuration right so you don't keep paying for apps you don't need. This is where most people get it wrong. If you need a hand getting it fully optimized—from a clean, high-converting design to proper payment integration that works —my team at Renux Technologies handles these technical setups all the time. We make sure your store is lean, fast, and ready to scale so you can focus strictly on your importation and sales.

Success with the new store!

I really don't think going the shoppyFy route was a perfect solution except it's just for a small niche which you don't plan going big on + a hosted platform ins't entirely yours hence there's always a limit on what you're allowed to do + you even get charged extra to enable features that ought be there already.

Neither wooCommerce nor wordPress or most CMS are slow. It's only slow when handled by those who call themselves developers BUT don't know their onion.

Have seen simple wordpress websites using over 15 plugins on a fancy pageBuilder built themes hosted on a (crappy) cheap hosting platform. How e no go slow.
