Judges 9:23 records that God sent an evil spirit between Abimelech and the leaders of Shechem, causing conflict and strife. This shows God’s sovereign use of spirits to accomplish His purposes, even through judgment.

Contrast with New Testament:
Jesus confronts and casts out evil spirits, demonstrating God’s kingdom breaking into the world to restore peace and defeat evil (Mark 1:34, Luke 11:14-20).

Reflection:
In the Old Testament, evil spirits can be instruments of God’s judgment. In the New Testament, Jesus reveals God’s ultimate plan to defeat evil and restore creation. But how do God discard evil spirit after its usage? Is it not a messenger too?The same God's messenger in the old testament is what is now the enemy?
