22 Years, One SIM, One Story by moscobabs(op):
22 Years, One SIM, One Story

In 2004, as a young student at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, I bought a SIM card from a new network that had just arrived in Nigeria. That network was Glo, and little did I know that small chip would stay with me for over two decades.

Through the years, that SIM witnessed everything—late-night calls with friends, business growth, family moments, tough times, and victories. It remained constant while life kept changing.

From the days of recharge cards and “Who go dash me card?” to today’s world of fast internet and social media, my number never changed. It became more than just a line—it became part of my identity.

Today, after 22 years, I finally upgraded my SIM to 4G. Same number, same journey—just a new level.

Not everything old needs to be replaced. Some things just need an upgrade.

Cheers to growth, consistency, and evolution. 🥂

You are a legend for sticking to Glo through thick and thin. Your breed is really rare. You deserve an award for your brand loyalty😂😂😂

2 decades on a mediocre network is a feat only the strong can handle. One big bottle of origin bitters for you. Even the employees of glo are using mtn/Airtel lines for peace of mind.

My sim card was bought in 2003 and I still have the sim pack with the CD plate in it intact. It was never stolen or misplace. Still using it

Your story will fit the profile of who the CBN guys want for their BVN update.

SixSeven:
1. One-time phone number change

Under the new rules, customers can now change the phone number linked to their BVN only once in their lifetime. The policy targets rising cases of SIM-swap fraud, where criminals take over phone numbers to gain access to bank accounts.

Customers are therefore advised to link their BVN to a secure, long-term phone number—preferably one already tied to their National Identification Number (NIN).

This rule is nonsense. As much as it makes sense, it is not a long term thinking. We do not have permanent phone numbers. The number tied to my NIN can expire. People can and should have the right to change numbers any number of times they want. Nigeria should decide whether they are using NIN or not. A phone number should not be a personal identifiable number, it is even dangerous. The other time Minister of Interior under Buhari said no passport without NIN. Now, CBN wants to limit your BVN with NIN and OTPhone number. Let's stop making life more difficult for the average Nigerian.
I'm imagining someone in an IDP camp reading this. Congratulations on having a consistent lifestyle over the years. Unfortunately, life is not linear for some others while the sun shines everyday on some roofs. Which artiste said he changed his number when he became famous again?

It has been long have been using my MTN line, just that I couldn't remember the exact date I bought it... Is there a code to confirm when I bought the sim ?
Re: 22 Years, One SIM, One Story by stevonics: 1:51pm On Apr 11
I bought mine (MTN) 6k around 2002-2003. After many years, i loaded some numbers that came with pack as airtime and it worked.
Re: 22 Years, One SIM, One Story by brain54(m): 2:35pm On Apr 11
I understand the point of your comment...

But glo... that's a shitty network. undecided

I used my MTN sim for years. I almost cried I couldn't replace that line cos I wasn't even in the location I could have replaced it.

I still feel bad about losing the number, my contacts on it etc. I had a sentimental attachment to that sim!
