INDEPENDENT NATIONAL ELECTORAL COMMISSION (INEC)
PRESS STATEMENT

POSTPONEMENT OF NATIONWIDE VOTER REVALIDATION EXERCISE

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) held a meeting with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) today, Friday, 10th April 2026, during which, among other issues, the proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise was considered.

Following deliberations, the Commission resolved to postpone the exercise until after the 2027 General Election.

The voter revalidation exercise is a critical component of the Commission’s mandate to maintain a credible and up-to-date National Register of Voters. It is designed to verify and review existing voter records, ensure the accuracy of personal data, eliminate duplicate and ineligible entries, and strengthen the overall integrity of the voter register. The exercise also aims to provide an opportunity for registered voters to confirm their details and make necessary corrections where required.

INEC remains committed to the conduct of free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections.

I don't think that these INEC are serious people.
An exercise to allow people make corrections on their voters cards. Mistake caused by INEC. They are ones inputting the data, they input a woman's sex as male, they input a 53 year old man's age as 35. And have now suspended the exercise to correct them. 2027 election is about a year away.
And what of those that have changed location. And those INEC changed their polling units or those on their own that want to change their poling unit.
Something that is said to be continuous. So best time to make it is now so it will used for 2027 elections. And you are saying after the elections, so the flaws should continue till 2027 after elections. And if done afterwards will now be used for 2031 elections.
INEC had since after 2023 elections to conduct this continuous voter exercise but refused to do so.
What about those that have turned 18 after 2023, are the allowed to register and get voters card?
You don't even know what they are talking about with all you listed.
Everything you listed can be don. Voter registration can be done, data can be changed or amended.
What the topic is about is revalidation, to clear dead or double registration out of the voter's register

This is unacceptable, considering the fact that millions in the register are either dead or have left the country.
This is criminal of them.
The register must be updated.
Say no to rigging.
If INEC can't update the voter register, then political parties should not do so 🙄 🤔.
What a shameless, pocketed manipulative,dependent-independent agency.
Oga calm down and read well.

INEC isn’t again the exercise but they say TIMING is the constraint bearing in mind only months to general election

Do you know how long and time consuming it takes to do voter revalidation?

Let’s Stop Criticising for the sake of criticising

These folks know exactly what they are doing. After flooding the North with foreigners, especially in the border states to skew results in favour of Buhari, the same scheme is likely going to now bite Tinubu, so they are trying to tighten that loose end. Smh.

Well, what do I know undecided

They have 4 years to prepare for the elections and waited until it's few months to the elections and then they remember that they are supposed to update the voter register?
There's no excuse for this failure.
It's deliberate.
4 years and billions budgeted for the exercise and you are defending this gross malpractices and failure?
Please, be serious on issues that affects national security and trust.
