Losing your head of state and top military command easily, completely losing your air space to foreign powers etc,these are not the characteristics of a world power.The Iranians are quite formidable and resilient because they don't fear death,which is quite common with people who have a religious ideology.The Americans are negotiating because they don't want American casualties which they will definitely have if they do a ground invasion.
