The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State has plunged deeper into crisis following the emergence of two state chairmen from parallel congresses held ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The rival congresses, conducted amid escalating internal disagreements, saw two factions lay claim to legitimacy, despite both aligning with the party’s national leadership under former Senate President, David Mark.
One faction, led by the party’s Deputy National Financial Secretary, Dimeji Fabiyi, held its congress at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta under the supervision of national officer, Olatunji Shoyinka. The exercise produced Emmanuel Famojuro as the state chairman.
Shoyinka, while presenting what he described as a harmonised list of state executives, maintained that the process complied with party guidelines and reflected the consensus of critical stakeholders.
In his acceptance speech, Famojuro called for unity within the party and pledged to reposition the ADC through aggressive grassroots mobilisation, emphasising the importance of youths and women in strengthening the party’s structure.
In a parallel development, another faction conducted a separate congress at the party secretariat in the Itoko area of Abeokuta under the supervision of national officer, Rasheed Salvador. The congress returned Dr. Femi Soluade as the substantive state chairman.
Other officials elected at the congress include Prince Babatunde Adedeji as Deputy State Chairman and Hon. Agbebiyi Olusoji as State Secretary, alongside members of the State Executive Committee. The State Legal Adviser, Femi Aina, affirmed that the exercise complied with party regulations and upheld due process.
The Soluade-led faction, however, distanced itself from the congress held at the OOPL, describing it as unauthorised and lacking legitimacy.
The parallel congresses underscore deepening divisions within the Ogun ADC, raising concerns over the party’s cohesion as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has openly boasted that he assisted certain elements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in deploying the judiciary to frustrate the Osun State local government allocation lawsuit.

In a video now circulating widely on social media and obtained by SaharaReporters, Wike made the claim while addressing a crowd in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The former Rivers governor accused the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, of benefitting from judicial actions against the Osun State Government without knowing those who did the work behind the scenes.

The suit in question led to the withholding of local government funds in Osun State, a development widely seen as targeting the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke as opposition in the state.

Wike, who spoke angrily, suggested that the court action supporting the APC’s position against the Osun government did not happen by chance, boasting that powerful political forces worked quietly to ensure the outcome.

“Don’t take our support for Mr President for granted,” Wike warned, in an apparent message to APC leaders defending Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara. “You have to be careful about the statements you make. You have to be very careful.”

He accused Basiru of political ingratitude, claiming the APC was enjoying in Osun State without understanding who engineered their advantage.

“Today, you are enjoying in Osun. You don’t know those who did the work,” Wike said. “You are opening your mouth to talk about Rivers State.”

Those party hijackers will be sent out of ADC very soon, this is just politics 101. They think they can use st○len money to chase out people who built the party from scratch. I will continue to say it that the David Mark led Exco members are inexperienced.

How can you go into Congress without resolving the issue of state chairmen that has been on ground before the new entrants?

Now the old Exco members are insisting on reelection while the new entrants wants to take over.

Party administration requires experience which cannot be bought in the market.

I expect Baba Oyegun to guide Atiku and David Mark. He guided APC through similar stage before Baba Akande took over. Atiku and David Mark are used to contesting for election but doesn't have understanding of managing the Party.

This is not Tinubu at all. It's a Case of a lazy man blaming his tools.

How would you proceed to Congress when just last week State Chairmen had a press conference to disassociate itself from the national body led by David Mark?
