In the north where bandits and terrorists kidnap and terrorize them daily, whenever the NAF try to help the situation it is always accidental bombing. If they didn’t mistakenly bomb the fishermen guys in lake chad area, it is villagers and then the market people. God is wonderful. How our Gallant Air Force always fire into innocent people needs to be study sha. Didn’t really read this article by the way cuz nor be today e don tey. |

I smell lies in this reportage, four fighter jets cannot kill only 56 persons and injuring 20 in a crowded market, the casualties should be way higher than 56. Let's say 200 or even more |

The Nigerian Army and Airforce are highly compromised and incompetent It is either their Armored carrier is not starting, or they are bombing civilians in error Allow the US to handle this complete annihilation of bandits and terrorists, they said no |

It appears that the north has made up their mind to vote against druggie in the 2027 election, hence they're been depopulated. |

Lovit:The Nigerian Airforce is the issue here not the Army. Their airstrike is mostly off target. Sometimes, I questioned whether they were properly trained for this. This is not the first time they have done this. Secondly, allowing the U.S handling this is good but it would render our armed forces incompetent and useless. |

*What happened* - *When*: Saturday, around 2:46 p.m. during peak business hours - *Where*: Jilli Market, a weekly market on the border between Gubio LGA in Borno State and Geidam LGA in Yobe State. The village falls under Fichimaram Ward, Geidam LGA, but officials say it’s technically in Gubio LGA, Borno. - *What*: An airstrike, suspected to be part of a military operation targeting Boko Haram insurgents who allegedly visit the market to collect levies and supplies. Eyewitnesses say 4 fighter jets were involved. *Casualty figures reported* Eyewitnesses and local officials are giving different but overlapping numbers: - One eyewitness: counted 56 bodies himself, helped rescue 2 injured. Said more bodies were still being recovered and the total could be higher. 14 people are hospitalized at Specialist Hospital, Geidam. - Councillor of Fichimaram Ward, Malam Lawan Zanna: said over 30 killed initially, with 20+ hospitalized in Geidam. 2 were referred to Teaching Hospital Damaturu. 9 of the hospitalized later died, pushing his count to “over 30”. - So current estimates range from 30+ to 56+ dead, with at least 14 injured. Exact figures are still unconfirmed because recovery is ongoing. *Why the market was targeted* Multiple sources said the jet was tracking suspected insurgents believed to be in the market. The strike reportedly missed the intended target and hit traders and buyers instead. The market draws people from Gubio, Chiweram, Benisheikh in Borno, and Gurokayeya, Geidam in Yobe. *Official responses so far* - *Yobe State Govt*: Special Adviser on Security, Brig. Gen. Abdulsalam Dahiru rtd, confirmed the incident but said Jilli village is under Borno State and referred inquiries to Maiduguri officials. - *Nigerian Air Force*: No official statement yet as of the time the report was filed. - *Borno State*: No comment quoted in the report. *Context* This isn’t the first time civilians have been killed in airstrikes targeting insurgents in the Northeast. Similar incidents occurred in Rann 2017, Sakotoku 2020, and Mutumji 2022. Military operations in the Lake Chad axis often target markets and transit points because insurgents tax traders and buy supplies there. The challenge is distinguishing fighters from civilians in crowded weekly markets. *What usually happens next* 1. *NAF investigation*: The Air Force typically sets up a board of inquiry if civilian casualties are alleged. They’ll check flight logs, targeting data, and ground intelligence. 2. *State Emergency Management*: SEMA in Borno/Yobe usually coordinates with NEMA for mass burial, hospital bills, and support for families. 3. *Casualty verification*: Local govt, police, and community leaders compile a final list. Early eyewitness counts are often higher than the final official tally. 4. *Compensation*: In past cases, federal or state govts have paid condolence/compensation to families after verification, though it’s inconsistent. *If you have family in the area* - Contact Specialist Hospital Geidam: That’s where most injured were taken. - Reach Gubio LGA chairman or Fichimaram Ward councillor for updates on recovered bodies. - NEMA Northeast Zonal Office in Maiduguri often releases verified casualty lists after 48-72 hours. This is still developing and casualty numbers may change as more bodies are recovered and hospitals update. No statement yet from Defence HQ or NAF, so the cause and intent are still officially unconfirmed. Losing civilians in counterinsurgency ops is devastating and keeps happening in the region. |

williams2326:The citizens are the sacrifice. Billions of dollars budgeted for military equipment, yet a simple aerial reconnaissance keeps failing woefully with helpless citizens being bombed indiscriminately. The technology for aerial surveillance is bo longer a thing of utmost sophistication. Even smart kids are building drones with very high resolution cameras. |

It is clear that terrorists or their sympathisers are the ones who ate now in possession of some aircrafts. The IRGC in Iran started like this. Now, they are stronger and more relevant than the Iranian army. The template of Afghanistan - Iran government is gradually playing out, with the APC jihadi party in power. Tinubu knows that he has only the next four years to steal all he can, because when the north take over power again, Nigeria will be gone and islamised through genocide. |

Wait o, it's like this Nigeria military is fast becoming a curse to the people. Was it not the same military that helped stopped a lot of conflict in many countries across Africa? See what they've been reduced to! Terrorists wipe out soldiers including a brigadier general and when they want to respond they take revenge on armless market people. Am not just understand what is happening in this zoo. |

Of course, the people bombed will suddenly become innocent civilians. We have seen this script more than once. The South East also use it at some point where every arrested IPOB member often turns out to be an innocent boy who wanted to go and get medications for their sick mum. Before I got to the source of this story, I knew it will be Daily Trust. Just like South West politicians rely on the likes of The Nation to push their propaganda, with politicians from the South South and South East often using The Sun, Vanguard and Punch to push their own. Nigerian is a very difficult country to govern. |
