US To Totally Control And Block The Strait Of Hormuz Today by 10AM by runningriot(op):
The CENTCOM released a statement saying a naval blockade will begin at 10am Eastern time tomorrow [1500GMT], April 13. That gives us a little over 12 hours from now.

They say the blockade will be enforced against vessels of all nations entering or departing Iranian ports and coastal areas, including all Iranian ports on the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

The statement goes on to say that CENTCOM forces will not impede freedom of navigation for vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz to and from non-Iranian ports.

Several points here are different from the threat we heard from Donald Trump on social media earlier.

You will recall he said that all ships that paid an Iranian toll would be pursued and interdicted in international waters. That is not what CENTCOM is saying. They are saying the US naval blockade will only impact vessels leaving or entering Iranian ports and coastal areas and that vessels not destined to or from those ports would have freedom of navigation through the strait.

To be clear: This blockade kicks in at 10am Eastern time on April 13 – tomorrow morning here in Washington. Source: Aljazeera

After a failed marathon negotiation filled with much tensed and distrust US are trying to prove a point that they will leverage against Iran by taking total control of the most sort out bride a move that any round of negotiation will favor them and give them an edge over Iran. However, Iran says that they can't be bully and threatened to take any swift and decisive actions should in case US goes ahead with their actions. This means the season 2 of this war is about to be unbox.

First you fail to manage the situation, now you want to 'block' it like it's a switch? That's not strategy, that's damage control pretending to be power grin

You people are FUNNY!! When IRGC capitulated and said they'd open the Straight just as Trump's deadline approached, you people said the Straight was never closed. Are you now admitting they chickened out at the last minute? Add to that "US warships never entered Hormuz", "Netanyahu is dead", "57 US soldiers were killed", "Soldiers who went to rescue airman were killed" etc. Aren't you folks tired of being wrong??😅

The way and manner this Trump reasons can be somehow. How do you want to open the Strait by blocking it? You're complaining that Iran blocked the Strait and yet you want to block it further. Very weird.

Iran buried mines in the Strait over the years. And only them know where the explosives are. If you pay them $2m they let your ship pass safely. In other words they are dirty - illegally extorting ships. Trump is preventing them from collecting that money and at same time sweeping up the mines (which is a very slow and dangerous process)

You probably had no idea that the US lifted sanctions on Iran's oil sales, permitted India to buy from Iran, and also released $6bn of their seized funds in Qatar.

How do any of those above benefits ordinary Americans?
How is this winning?

Iran only began laying mines in the sea around February 2026, shortly after the conflict began. Prior to that time, they never tolled ships. If you want dirty or illegal, look no further than the countries that attacked Iran unprovoked.

Why don't you read to understand. He is blocking it from any ship going to or coming from Iranian ports, not that he is blocking it completely. It is Iran that the US wants to feel the heat.

Is it not the same thing Iran is doing, allowing certain ships to pass which they describe as not being their enemies after paying a toll. Now the US has blocked that.

Re: US To Totally Control And Block The Strait Of Hormuz Today by 10AM by edogu(m):
For those who may not fully understand what Donald Trump is trying to do, here is the situation. During the heat of the conflict, Iran moved to block the Strait of Hormuz while still selling oil to its allies, with China being the most prominent. With this move, Iran’s oil cannot pass through the Strait of Hormuz, which affects both Iran and its allies, while the allies of the United States are still able to move their oil through the route. This gives the United States a stronger position in negotiations.

The difficult part is that if Iran decides to strike the United States first, it would be seen as a clear invitation to war. But then blocking the channel also hurts Iran’s main source of revenue, which is oil exports which may force Iran to respond militarily. Again it equally exposes United States forces to possible direct attacks from the Iranian military, especially since their ships are within Iran’s reach. To make matters more complicated, some United States allies have already refused to participating the blockade which mean they may have to act alone.

Both sides need to find a way to resolve their differences and stop putting the rest of the world under pressure.

Interesting. They're both doing the same thing one of them considered to be illegal.

Yes it is illegal for Iran because they mined the strait and any ship who does not pay the toll or considered their enemy will be targeted and blown up.

So the US is doing same to Iran by not allowing those ships that Iran would have allowed to pass, to pass the straits. Including Iranian vessels.

You can call it illegal if you like.

It's illegal for Iran but suddenly becomes legal for US who would potentially use missiles ( not mines as Iranians did ) and other ammunition to deter ships from using the Strait.
Nice one.

I never said it was legal for the US to do same. I said you can call it whatever you want.

US is just trying to tie the noose harder putting more pressure for Iran to bow to their demands.

Iran was using the straits as leverage, the US is trying to erode that leverage.

Oga leave all this legal or illegal that you are talking. Iran blocked the straits, legally or illegally, threatened any ship that it would be targeted and have mined the straits.

US is doing same to them, legally or illegally.

If it boils down to fire power now we know who will suffer most but claim victory.

Iran that has been preparing for this since before the 12-day war. The strait is an international waterway and though they don't physically block it they make risk of trying to cross it not worth taking and driving up insurance premiums so high it is not worth it

You're looking for every possible straw to hold and justify the military actions of US and Israel against Iran. Which one is " Iran that has been preparing for this..."?
How about US that's currently disrupting the Strait now as they claim? Their own is just but Iran's is illegal, abi?

US aim.is tp prevent Iran from extorting money from ships to cross, and at same time clearing mines laid by Iran

It is an international waterway. No one has a right to make it unsafe to pass unless you bribe them. It is called extortion

If that is the case, why is US now blockading an international waterway?
Doesn't it amount to piracy or terrorism?

To clear the mines and explosives buried by Iran and also prevent Iran from extorting ships.
