It's easier said when you're not in the front line. I'm as sure as hell that you haven't held a rifle before talkmore of firing one at the enemy but you're here giving unsolicited commercial on what he should have done right. Civilians and overdo.
You're sounding like someone from Afghanistan, very outdated in reasoning.

But when the Nigerian military retaliates, Obi and Atiku will enter the market square to lie that our military are eliminating civilians.

This is so sad. RIP to our gallant officers.

For those giving unsolicited advice from the corner of their rooms, saying “they should have done better,” you really should understand this first.
It’s always easier said when you’re not on the front line. It’s easy to analyze and criticize when you’re not the one under attack.

When you’re in that moment, when the enemy is right in front of you, everything changes. All your training, all the tactics, all the strategies you thought you knew… they can fly out of your head in seconds.
What you’re left with is you and your instincts to survive.
You and your adrenaline.
And in that moment, you’re not even thinking about your country, your mission, or anything else anymore. You’re fighting for your life. You’re fighting to survive the next five minutes.
So for those on the sidelines saying, they should have known the areas will be compromised, honestly you don’t fully understand what you’re saying.

Maybe you’ve never been there.
Maybe you’ve never experienced that kind of pressure, that kind of fear, that kind of reality.
But if you ever have, even once, if you’ve ever been in a situation where your life was truly on the line, you’ll understand this better.
Because in moments like that, logic fades.
Tactics fade.
Even training can fade.
And what you’re left with is one thing,
Your instinct to survive.

RIP Colonel Muhammed.

Convoy trucks must give space from each other, at least 25 Meters apart, it will be hard to ambush them all at once this way, as few casualties will be recorded from an ambush and the others incoming can counter fire...even mines will be less effective. Anti mine forward vehicles are needed.

Once the Forward Operating Base was known to be under attack, a presumption ought to have been made that all routes by which army reinforcements could arrive would be seeded with IED traps by the terrorists to blow up the first vehicle that drove over them.

Aerial bombardment by drones or manned aircraft was the most viable option that ought to have been implemented with urgency in this instance. A military convoy inbound on any road to the scene of the attack was all but certain to fall into an ambush or IED trap.
This is common sense that is not common.

Drones with bombs and camera should have been deployed in this scenario.

The intelligence agencies got an info that BH have brought in armed drones, what the heck did they do with the information? Romance them with the bull crap of "they are our brothers". The moral of these terrorists will keep increasing while that of our trained military personnel, sadly, will keep dwindling by the day. Such a pity!

They catch the enemies, then rehabilitate and release them back into the battlefield...then turn around to lament when the enemies kpai them.

Do I blame the ones in Abuja giving criminal orders? No! I blame the morons who choose to capture those killers alive in the first place. There is no rehabilitation for a terrorist on his way to claim his 72 virgins.

SaharaReporters gathered that while advancing towards the frontline, the Colonel’s convoy drove into a deadly ambush laid by the insurgents, who had planted a remotely detonated explosive device along the route.

At least they can see the results of rehabilitation of repentance and repentive terrorists. A repentance terrorist will kill Army general, get caught, rehabilitation again, goes back....the cycle goes on.

That's why drones are game changer.

Their routes should have been mapped by drones before and during the journey.

This is not about arm chair analysis.

What is the funds been used for that army cannot get common drones since how many years of fighting?

Each battalion or brigade should have nothing less than 5-10 drones on camp.

The question now is; how did the BK know that the late Colonel was on his way to assist the FOB that was under serious attack? Until we tell ourselves the truth, this war will not end. RIP Late Colonel IA Muhammad.

There’s a difference between lived reality and book reality.
People keep quoting theory like war is a classroom. There’s something called rules of engagement, yes but those are written for controlled understanding, not the chaos of real combat.

You’re told during BMT you must not shoot a defenceless enemy. For example, if an enemy is parachuting from a damaged aircraft, the rule assumes you don’t shoot until he lands. I remember this clearly when we were doing military law back then during BMT.

You’re also told you can’t shoot an enemy who has surrendered. In theory, once he drops his weapon and raises his hands, you’re meant to capture him, not harm him.
Now bring that into real life.
In actual combat, nothing is that clear, tension is high, and decisions are made in seconds. You don’t know who is truly defenceless, who is pretending, or what threat is still active.

That’s the gap people don’t understand.
It’s easy to talk about spacing, mine checks, and perfect decisions when you’re not the one moving into an ambush or trying to reinforce your own men under fire. Real situations come with pressure, adrenaline, incomplete information, and responsibility.
War is not a movie. It’s unpredictable, messy, and unforgiving. What looks obvious in hindsight is never that simple in the moment.

It's not all of them abeg.

You think say e easy being posted to Borno and operating in Sambisa forest? If you know any soldier that was deployed to Borno, ask them to narrate what they face against those Boko guys. I know a few and have been privileged to hear the stories first hand. Their job there is not a child's play.

I get your point and I'm not a politician. Neither do I have respect for them and like I always say, politicians make war, soldiers fight and die in it.

Drones are definitely a game changer, no argument there.
Yes, ideally, routes should be mapped, surveillance should be active, and units should have access to multiple drones. That’s modern warfare, and it’s where things are heading.

But let’s not oversimplify it.
Having drones and effectively using them are two different things. Terrain like jungle and marsh areas limits visibility even for aerial surveillance or patrol.

Then there’s the reality of urgency. If a forward base is under attack, decisions are made fast. You don’t always have the luxury of perfect reconnaissance before moving. Sometimes it’s about immediate reinforcement, not perfect planning.

Also, this is exactly where the gap between theory and reality shows again. On paper, everything is supposed to be mapped, monitored, and controlled.

In practice then, things changes. resources, coordination, and real-time pressure don’t always align like that.

So yes, speak truth to power about funding and equipment. That part is valid and true.
But at the same time, we shouldn’t reduce a complex battlefield situation to “they should have just used drones.” It’s never that straightforward.

They use drones while we refuse to use it because they are expensive and we expect results from the military.
It all seems as if all the military equipment we purchase are diverted to Boko Haram
