While the tinubu government is scandalous, the greedy dealerships wer have in Nigeria is another thing to worry about. Check it, no Nigerian buys brand new cars. What Nigerians buy with nylon wrapped like mummies are 3rd or 4th hand (if not 5th self before it will now be stolen), ship it down here and sell for price of brand new (very annoying).

Remembered when I bought my 2015 ml 350, was not even up to 15-16m, but all of a sudden that ml so will give you standard 3bedroom now.
We know things are hard, but Africans are greedy to themselves that's why things are like this.

It's terrible but blind supporters insist the country is working.

Nigerians who haven't left the country cannot understand what it means to buy a brand new car....no be to buy 2016 rx350 wrapped in bread nylon con dey drive am everywhere like that inside heat o...

I mean to launch a 2026 GLS or TX500H+...wey you go select trim, colour, accessories and functions while placing your order...that feeling hits different....but that only happens in countries that work for their citizens.

That's something Nigerian politicians know nothing about....na to dey Lai, thief and oppress citizens.

The exchange rate in 2017 was $1- N360

It is now around N1,400.

It being 4 times the price now makes sense.

Bit of good news. The government plans to reduce import duty on cars fron 70% to 40%.

This should reduce car prices by around 20%.

Lets do the maths.

Car cost 4m. Import duty at 70%. That is 2.8m.
When you add 2.8m to 4m, you get 6.8m.

Vs

Car cost 4m. Import duty now at 40%. That is 1.6m. When you add 1.6m to 4m, that is 5.6m.

5.6 divided by 6.8m with give us 80%.

That means that the car price is now 80% of the former price.
Oga let them reduce it first. This yeye government have been planning to do a lot of things since they came on board in 2023. They've not done any. So allow the import duty reduction to be fully implemented before you continue

The government should work harder on public transportation by expanding the rail network and improving on intra city bus transport. Other states ( The big ones ) should copy the BRT system of Lagos State. The use of personal vehicles should be discouraged by improving and making public transport accessible just like in the UK ND most parts of Europe. Cheers.

Is import duty money used in building the port?

It's not just them the whole structure is rotten from the executive to the judiciary. If someone or a party took power to fix things they would have to deal with the current corrupt state and structure. They either will join them, get killed or fight an internal war to get rid of it. Any government that takes power without dismantling the whole structure will just continue this mess. The problem is not Tinubu. The problem is the system that produces Tinubus because Tinubu or APC or whatever didn't just materialize out of the air one day.

Inflation is never restricted to one area or commodity.

Beef
Electronics

Funny how some persons foolishly brag about how wonderful this regime is because allocations to state governors has increased by under 60%....

Meanwhile the exchange rate has tumbled by almost 500% and prices of basic goods have increased by 500-1000% in the last 3 years...

Good analysis but as far as the horrible people of the nation are concerned, you are day dreaming. Even if the import duty becomes zero prices will never come down. The government is not the major problem but the greed of the average Nigerian.
