The government must put it foot down to stop this nonsense.
All abandoned kids should be pickup the streets, their parents should be jailed for abandoning them.
All school age killed should be compulsorily enrolled in school by their parents.
The government should be sharia law.
Lastly government should pass a law of man marring not more than one wives.

Something that has not been mentioned is the cost of living in the North. That's what most southerners see but don't understand up North. It's why your aboki shining your shoe is able to have 4 wives after he gathers some money. It's why they come to Lagos and anywhere there is economic opportunities to hustle and take it back. Their own japa is within so the way we say $40,000 can not do much in US, it may be able to do a lot elsewhere. Not justifying irresponsibility but that's one lens most people don't look at. What's the cost of living in the North?
I agree with you on the lower cost of living. Even up to transportation, food, housing etc.

Agreed 💯 on this. Government should provide education and all. But being uneducated isn’t an excuse for stupidity!

Your position is entirely wrong.

Good for the country? How? Who would feed them? When they can't afford basic life, where do they turn to? How do standardized societies provide labour?

Why on God's earth would a man earning N60k have three wives and 15 children, or more?

Illiteracy, poverty, terrorism, banditry, etc...why do you think they thrive more up north?
I understand where you are coming from bro.

But these guys having 17 children is not a new thing. They have been existing many years in their part of the country, happy and living fulfilled lives mainly through farming. They never needed a lot of money to live good lives.

Insecurity displaced many of them and then they do not have any other option than to turn to begging or crime.

I still stand that insecurity is the bigger proble.

....and where do you see the children being inculcated into ISWAP, BOKO HARAM, FULANI KIDNAPPERS AND BANDITRY?

..
Children displaced because of the crisis.

They have nothing else to turn to. The insecurity leads to displacement of people from their lands, and in turn feeds recruits to terrorism

The North knows their problem, I laugh Obi when he said he can solve the problem of the North.
Imagine a show maker havin 3 wives and 15 children, how does that even make sense
The north have been birthing anyhow right from day one of Nigeria nor be today e start, the problem we have is this useless set of civilians we have in government in the name of democracy.

Why didn't the people causing all this insecurities in Nigeria today dears it when the military guys of those days were in power? it's the politicians that are causing all this insecurity wahala we are passing through now, and the useless civilian government since 1999 have been the one enabling them because most of them in government are also part of it.

So unfortunate we are going to live with this insecurities for a very long time because Nigerians are not even ready at all for anything good.

shame on on them and their yeye governance ideology.

there was never a time poverty is not in jubilation state in Nigeria or African countries as a whole.
as far as memory can permit me, so called president was a well grown adult when OFN was lunched way back then prioritizing food security. I grew to know what is called 'iyan Buhari' meaning Buhari's pounded yam. all these were nicknames given to the food items door step delivery intervention programs that we enjoyed as a growing child and our parents appreciated till date. Reasons why our parents who were school teachers with such meager income were able to sponsor 3, 4 kids through University same time.

Talking about the toddlers scouting around Abuja roads for means of survival, at what point has it become a concern to him if not for the embarrassment it posses on him siting such heartrending situation they've constantly swept under the carpet. must every hungry Nigerians pick up a plastic bowl to beg for alms before this government feel concern?? because some people's condition is worse than what you see the kids doing on the street.

I have gone to eat at an eatery where an average age Nigerian youth whisper in my ears that I should please assist him by leaving a little leftover that he would know how to pick up my plate afterwords.. when I interacted with him, he wasnt actually a begger, he had stayed two days without food and he had to stay out of jod because the salary couldnt cater for transportation and coupled with several other factors..

Northerners have embraced their problems over years and surviving through whichever means, why is the government trying to downplay its primary responsibility to the nation as a whole..

people have landed properties that had been abandoned for fear of banditry. it takes grace of God to leave for work in the morning and come back home safely without a story that touch..

in the space of 4 days, my street was robbed twice. this is a street that has police post 300 meters away..
we put a call across to police, the DPO responded with sleepy voice and it took over three hours before they eventually called back that they didnt have fuel to move and they couldnt locate the particular street on foot.

I think the Government should just be focused on its responsibilities to its citizen before pointing accusing fingers.

'Na papa wey get property fit get mouth to say e wan disown pikin no be the one wey pikin don already know say in no get anything to gain from the papa afterall..'
Is it that you couldn't comprehend the guy's message or you were just wanting for this post to vent your anger?

I'm sure you're not a northener, neither do you have more than one wife and probably 3 children (that's if you're married in the first place). Someone has aired his opinion and calling the attention of northern adults to what they need to work on and you're here just heaping every blame of the government.

Fine, we all know that the government might have failed in some of its responsibilities but before you grow up to know about the government, it's your parents you first know and whether they like it or not, they owe you the duty to bring you up, train and educate you.

Now I can see you wrote in good English up there, meaning you're educated. Some people can not even go to school because of loads of their parents responsibilities cause by their own carefree attitude.

In my own opinion, the journey is very far because their politicians whom I would have said should be in position to start educating them on the implications of this lifestyle are also guilty. I know many of them, popular ones, who have more than 3 wives and more than 10 children.

But I believe we can start from somewhere. Awareness is key. But which government will start that?

It is well

This Lere thought he know something about the North but he dont. Whe you see Northerner earning less as a salary rest assured that its like hobby only stupid depends on salary. Average Norherner is a farmer and can feed your entire family all year round without reverting to salary.
In the North you see a family with over 20 children and yet they never experience deprivation and are all well brought up effectly contributing to the society.
Re: ₦60k Salary, 4 Wives, 17 Kids..... - Lere Olayinka Slams Irresponsible Parenting by gabbytabby: 10:13pm On Apr 14
Irresponsible parenting is applicable to North and South. No finger pointing is necessary. It’s reducing as the generations move away from cultivating the land whether voluntarily or by force.

happney65:
He no lie for this. The North for long didn't take advantage of western education as much as we did in the south.

Because with Western education, this won't happen at all. It is very very rare around us here.

If you see a child during school hours not in school, you won't ask anything else apart from "why are you not in school?"

But Tinubu supporters who are always afraid and timid of the North do not and cannot call out stuffs like this. Na only for Igbo matters them dey get strength

The truth of the matter is this,Nigeria is a country totally different from each other. We do not share the same values with the North

The South is much more Liberal and educated. While the North is uneducated

I also get your position, but see...

Consider these two terms...

Children of the street and children in the street. Please, look them up - if you are not familiar with them.

Do a study of the profiles of criminals around...locally and internationally. You'd find a recurring decimal - absent/suboptimal parenting. More specifically, in our environment, you'd find that most of them are those whose parents abandoned, or those who did not receive adequate parental care.

People have needs, once these needs are not met, and in the absence of a good moral structure, people would look for alternative pathways to get their needs fixed, whether legal or not. Older children (adolescents, teenagers) and adults with no skills, no education, no/poor support easily flood the streets and perpetrate crime.

This has been a constant.

So, what's my take? Insecurity is a problem, yes, but this problem is fed/worsened/maintained by the continuous production of children beyond the immediate capacities of their parents....that is, children that will spill into the streets to "do anything to survive."

These kids flood the streets to beg for alms, and those that have access to weapons/sponsors easily dive into crime.

You are right. The observation of the PA is also correct. If you remember quite well, Jonathan administration also made the same observation. Even if a person is under paid, the mere fact that they are able to make money, no matter how little gives them a sense of responsibility and things like banditry will have a hard time attracting them. Compare it to someone who doesn't make money at all, those ones are easy target for recruitment.
