You cannot get away with corruption in the ADC government. You cannot get away with compromising with terrorists and criminals and making life impossible in Nigeria. INEC is being used to scuttle democracy in Nigeria. The Federal Government must know, we fought the military to bring democracy to this country, and we will fight again to restore it.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has gone ahead with its national convention despite an ongoing internal crisis and uncertainty over its recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The convention, held on Tuesday by a faction loyal to the party’s National Chairman, David Mark, has further deepened tensions within the party while raising concerns about compliance with electoral regulations.

Speaking at the event, the party’s National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola, defended the legitimacy of the convention, dismissing claims that the exercise was illegal or flawed. He maintained that all necessary procedures were followed, including the dissolution of the former National Working Committee (NWC) and the inauguration of a caretaker leadership.

Aregbesola stated that resolutions from an earlier National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, which approved the leadership changes, had been formally communicated to INEC and acknowledged by the commission. He added that the submission was made by party leaders, including Ralph Okey Nwosu, and that the new leadership had been reflected on INEC’s official portal.

Insisting that due process was strictly observed, Aregbesola declared that members of the dissolved NWC no longer had any legal claim to office, describing any such claims as invalid.

However, he criticised INEC for failing to attend and monitor the convention, describing the absence as a breach of its statutory responsibility. He further alleged that the commission’s actions suggested a partisan bias, potentially aimed at weakening opposition parties and giving undue advantage to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his remarks, David Mark said the ADC would not succumb to pressure or intimidation, warning of a shrinking democratic space in Nigeria. He described the internal challenges facing the party as part of a broader struggle to safeguard democracy, calling on political actors across party lines to work together in defence of democratic values.

Also speaking at the convention, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, raised concerns over Nigeria’s current trajectory, warning that the country was “heading to disaster” under the present administration.

Obi cited rising insecurity and worsening economic indicators, including increasing national debt, as evidence of decline. He noted that Nigeria’s position in global terrorism rankings had worsened in recent years, describing the trend as alarming and requiring urgent intervention.

He urged leaders to make necessary sacrifices to address the country’s challenges, warning that failure to act could have serious consequences for future generations.

The ADC convention and the controversy surrounding it have underscored growing tensions within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly regarding the role of electoral institutions and the strength of opposition parties ahead of future elections.

Indeed. One with memory lapses as well since he wants to now rebrand himself a champion of democracy and good governance advocate whereas the reality of his life reveals the total opposite.

Elders should try and refrain from telling lies and revising history because those younger will remind them who they were and what they stood for.

His same Northern Military brothers, Generals Babaginda, Abacha, & Abdulsalem swore that Atiku Abubakar will never be the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Even General Obasanjo is of the same opinion.

I don't believe in Atiku. If Tinubu that I admired and supported for over 15 years can turn out to be a monster like this then it is finished for Democracy in Nigeria
