North Korea is showing a “very serious increase” in its ability to produce atomic weapons, according to Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The diplomatically isolated country is believed to operate multiple facilities for enriching uranium, a key step in making nuclear warheads, South Korea’s spy agency has said. These include one at the Yongbyon nuclear site, which Pyongyang purportedly decommissioned after talks but later reactivated in 2021.

"In our periodic assessments, we have been able to confirm that there’s a rapid increase in the operations” of the Yongbyon reactor, Grossi told reporters in Seoul on Wednesday.

The agency also observed a rise in operations at Yongbyon’s reprocessing unit and light-water reactor, as well as the activation of other facilities, Grossi said.

“All that points to a very serious increase in the capabilities of [the] DPRK in the area of nuclear weapons production, which is estimated at a few dozen warheads,” he said, using North Korea’s official name.

it’s a deterrence. You can never be broken. If any country tries to do that to you. The the destruction is mutually assured. Refugees in thier millions. Towns and cities deserted due to nuclear wastes and risks of radiation . Unlike Hiroshima and Nagasaki the bombs exposed in the air. Wastes where quickly dispersed by the wind and in a few years they where back to normal. The nukes now will touch down because they can be locked to hyper missiles. So to say if a nuke lands in Abuja, the cities will be evacuated. You leave or you die from strong radiation poisoning

3. Enough nukes would trigger a nuclear winter by blowing enough debris for dust to block sunlight. Flora will perish over a wide area, as will fauna. This is where most of the dinosaur extinction came from

While there's enough nuclear warheads in the megaton range to wipe out most cities on earth, the real damage comes from fallout and nuclear winter.

NK has possesed nuclear warheads for ages and are yet to use in any war. This implies that they possess the restraint needed to avoid conflict. NK does not sponsor any terrorist organisation. NK has not utilised their nuclear capability for offensve or defensive purposes. Finally, enriched uranium can be for energy purposes too.

Note NK is the primary topic; however, Iran seeking for Nuclear weapon is a big problem. Several affiliated terrorist organisation are linked to iran, even some in Nigeria. With the way, these so-called bandits (evil kidnapping terrorists) are operating, they do not mind using a nuclear weapon on anyone including themselves.

The atomic bomb does not even have to be used, you just have to have it.
The ownership of the atomic bomb guarantees sovereignty through:

1st strike capability
2nd strike capability
MAD - Mutual Assured Destruction

For example, no one would have dared declare a no fly zone in Libya had Gaddafi not dismantled their nuclear program years before, same with Syria.

As for North Korea, there is a possibility that North Korean can sell nuclear warheads to Iran leading to a global proliferation of nuclear weapons.
While the IAEA will be inspecting weapons programs and nuclear facilities, North Korea can even sell a nuclear warhead to a non State actor like IS or Boko Haram.
The same proliferation by AQ Khan which was the foundation of nuclear programs and facilities in Pakistan, Libya, Syria, South Africa and North Korea.

North Korean with their JUCHE ideology do not have the same concept of life and death as you know it.
