Excitement As Tinubu Approves Lifetime Salary For Retired Paramilitary Heads by TheRareGem1(op): 8:57pm On Apr 15
Retired senior officers of four paramilitary agencies have commended President Bola Tinubu for approving a lifetime salary structure for personnel of the services.

The retired heads of agencies, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The senior officers were from the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Fire Service and the Nigerian Correctional Service.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that President Tinubu, had approved a lifetime salary structure for retired paramilitary agencies’ Controller/Commandant/Comptroller Generals, CGs, and Deputy CGs.

The NIS retired Comptroller -General, Chukwura Udeh, said that the essence of the visit was to show deep appreciation to Tinubu through the minister.

Udeh said that the lifetime salary approval had been a long time issue that had lingered in previous administrations
.

“On our behalf, kindly extend our appreciation to Mr President because this issue that was approved like it is nothing, made us see hell.

We were abandoned half way by other ministers but we will always remember that you have helped humanity,” he said.

Responding, Mr Tunji-Ojo on behalf of the Federal Government, appreciated the retired personnel for their years of service to the country.

According to the minister, the wellbeing and welfare of men in uniform will always be of priority to the president.

Mr President believes in renewed hope, and that it should be a way of life, and you do not just build a nation by building infrastructure, but also by building the people.

He does not see your welfare as a slogan but a way of life; It is the least of what you deserve because you have sacrificed the better part of your years.

“We must never allow you, in your old age, to regret the decisions of your youthful age to serve Nigeria,” he said.

He said that no officer was allowed to retire into poverty having worked hard for the country, hence, the need to ensure the welfare of officers in retirement.

“The service is not the way it used to be as It has never been this good for the paramilitary agencies.

“Look at the pride in our men in uniform, they now wear their uniforms in pride and no longer get belittled,” Mr Tunji-Ojo said.

He said that the ministry had cleared backlogs of promotion arrears, adding that promotion examinations were recently carried out by officers and men across the agencies.

People can now get to the right ranks at the right time and can predict their career growth, which is very motivating.

When you entered the service, you planned to give your best to the nation so the nation should be wiling to give you its best,” the minister said.

Some of the retired agency heads in attendance were: retired NSCDC Commandant General, Abdullahi Gana, ex FFS Controller General, Abdulganiyu Jaji, among others.

These paramilitary heads before retirement are mostly wealthy and made before their retirement especially in Nigeria, hardly will you see a poor AIG or deputy comptroller.the endangered species are mostly the rank and file whose majority are left with poor working conditions, salary and life after retirement.most of them can’t even build a good family and give proper training to their children while in service with their poor salaries needs such gesture the most.
Re: Excitement As Tinubu Approves Lifetime Salary For Retired Paramilitary Heads by Godfullsam(m): 4:15am On Apr 16
Why giving life time salary to only the senior officers?

Why not extend the kind gesture to the entire paramilitary structures?

These same senior officers have looted everything lootabke before they retire.

He ought to get the national assembly to pass that law to sustain it after his tenure in office... unless someone wants to scam some people. Congratulations to the officers.

This life no just balance, between the retired heads and retired juniors officers, who needs the lifetime salary most. Always making wrong policies just to sue himself, that tells more about this so called Tinubu

grin wow this some good news…….my mom retired as a controller of Nis few years ago and some of their entitlement due her rank have not been given, the welfare of our uniform men should be a priority if we want the best from them and they shouldn’t have to suffer after 35yrs of service for their father land, some can’t even boast of a house after retirement…….God bless president Tinubu and God bless FRN

It would have made more sense if the same thing was extended to the junior ranks. But this looks like a policy for only heads of the agencies

Soldiers who risk everything to make sure we’re safe, dying on the frontline everyday and their families thrown out of the barracks within days of their death with reduced salaries and unpaid benefits don’t get this but pot bellied Oga’s who have stolen more than their children can enjoy still get life time salaries? There should be some conditions attached to this kind of benefit for accountability. I don't think it should just be kept open like that without performance condition attached to it.

You are a poor man pikin yet you are supporting your oppressors, no wonder Deji Adeyanju said he is no longer doing activism because the Nigerians you are fighting for are so stupid they are supporting who you are trying to save them from.

Just like he ordered that police be withdrawn as escorts, today they are back. A government without legitimacy cannot enforce any law because the government itself is built on illegitimacy. You can't give what you don't have.

And these are the ones that are prone to lose their lives more easily on the job without any proper remuneration or compensation.
Everything is always to the Heads, ex-Govs, ex-Presidents... People that already acquired legally/illegally wealth while on the job are still being given so much more after service.
Why can't this failed Nigerian Government ever focus on the wellbeing of the common man for once in their lifetime?

That's Tinubu for you. He panders to the elite. He lacks sympathy for the poor. By now people should have been able to detect this trait. I'm just suprised the way our people reason at times. Is it the fact that most live in survival mode they can't introspect and analyse people properly.
