The Lagos state rape law is too harsh ..I personally think rape should be classified with different sentence for each category ..like first degree rape, second degree rape and 3rd degree rape

This judgement looks bias to me. (How can a 60 years old man rape an 18 years old lady severally in an hotel without raising alarm) I smell CONSPIRACY somewhere!!! Why would a lady follow a SPIRITUAL LEADER to an hotel if they are not in a consensual relationship

Terrorists gets 40 years, rapist gets life. If rapists gets life, terrorists that affect us all more should be hanged till their death. What a wasteful bunch of legislators and judiciary. The legislature and judiciary must do their part, support the security agencies, make harsh laws, to serve as deterrence. For now, the judiciary is not contributing it's part to the fight against terrorism and wanton killings in Nigeria.

Life imprisonment is too harsh, when he did not kill somebody, what happened to 20 or 30 years imprisonment. Lagos state need to review its law .
A lot of teachers are serving the same term now just because of few minutes enjoyment, we are losing productive men

I agree. Those who rape kids under 16 should get life jail.
Those who rape 16-17-year-olds should 40 years.
Those who abuse their position of trust to rape those under them (e.g., pastors, doctors, lawyers, lecturers, NYSC camp supervisors, etc.) should get 21 years.
Those who rape adults they had no authority over should get 14 years.

Yes, that part get as e be. But it also said he drugged her the first time. The article also said the judge relied on the doctor's evidence, so there must have been something there. I'll find and read the full judgement.

What I don't understand is how they raised alarm to the church elders and went to Mirable Centre and a police station and then the rape still occurred repeatedly.

We should desist from mixing emotions, morality and the law. I think this judge relied heavily on morality and emotions rather than the law to pass her judgement. The man of God or whatever he calls himself should have been allowed to face judgement of God and his conscience, but there is absolutely nothing in that judgement to suggest any kind of child molestation or Rape.
Some of the activities took place in hotels, tell me how rape is involved in this?
The case showed no evidence of unconsensual act, parents should give their female children better training.
I think this judgement was more of power show than based on the law.
The convict should appeal immediately, the judgement cannot stand.

Any person, cleric or not, who forcefully have sex with anyone, or have sex with any one without his/her consent deserves life jail sentence and more. Rapists deserves the harshest punishment the law allows. Lets hope others will learn from it.
I wish the victim and her family speedy full recovery from the trauma.
