During the 2023 election, Peter Obi consistently said he _would remove fuel subsidy_ but emphasized doing it differently from how it was eventually done.

*His main points:*

*1. He called subsidy “organised crime” and vowed to end it immediately if elected*
- “Subsidy is an organised crime; 50 percent of it is corruption, so it must be removed”
- “I will remove it immediately… it will not stay a day longer”
- “I’ve said it before, is an organised crime and I will not allow it to stay a day longer”

*2. But he insisted removal must be “organised” and gradual, with conditions to cushion hardship*
- “There was nothing wrong with the removal of fuel subsidy. What is wrong is the haphazard way in which it was announced and implemented”

*3. He wanted transparency on savings and reinvestment*
- He said subsidy funds should go to “more critical sectors like health and education”
- After Tinubu removed subsidy in May 2023, Obi argued it was done “without implementing measures to alleviate the resulting hardships” and called it a “misguided approach”
- He demanded: “We were told we’re doing it because we don’t want to continue to borrow… billions saved, where is it? Where is it invested in those critical areas of development?”

*4. His position vs Tinubu’s action*
In June 2023, Obi faulted Tinubu’s sudden announcement, saying he supports removal but it “has to be structured in phases” and backed by “empirical statistical data to demonstrate the savings and benefits”. He used the analogy that even under Jonathan, removal came with “relieving policies like SureP”.

*Summary:* Obi was for subsidy removal in principle — he campaigned on it, called it corruption, and said he’d end it “immediately”. But he stressed his method would be gradual, transparent, and paired with palliatives and reinvestment in education, health, power, and security.

2.Millions of pensioners having free health care in every federal hospital all over Nigeria.

3.NELFUND...Millions of poor students having their school fees paid through no-interest loan and also getting #20,000 as pocket money until their graduation.
If govt spends #5million on student,he only pays back in piecemeal,only and only if he has a job.If he collects #100,000 salary,he pays #10,000 out of it monthly.If he collects #200,000,he pays #20,000 monthly.
If he dies(God forbids),,nobody pays.
No job,no paying back.
4.He has built more Primary Health Centres all over Nigeria than all the previous govts combined.
5.The sheer number of massive infrastructural projects going on in the 6 geopolitical zones of Nigeria dwarfs that of all the other previous govts combined.
It has never happened in Africa for a govt to build a road that interconnects more than 9 states of a nation.It is a record that will be hard to beat.

There are more like LG autonomy,State Police etc.
