The question is, why should anyone punish his adult apprentice in such a crude manner?

I'm coming to learn under you, I paid you in kind or cash, but you think you can still punish me and get away with it.

Things like these happen when people don't sign the right and balanced agreement.

Don't you pay school fees and still get punished?

I don't know about you but I know that married people in our society are accorded more respect than the unmarried. A madam or boss who could give this juvenile form of punishment doesn't to a married woman doesn't deserve my respect

As husband you went to shop where your new wedded wife is learning hairdressing and you met her like this, serving punishment from oga, what will you do?

You confront the boss.

Tell your wife to stand up.

Stop her from going to the shop again.

Overlook her as if not I'd happening.

Applaud the boss.
For me, the boss in question will kneel for triple the duration, including raising their hands.

So, "you lots" cannot wait till she's done for the day?
How do "you lots" expect her to learn, if you keep interfering and distracting her from learning?

It's more of a Yoruba culture for omo-ise to serve punishment if they offend their oga/madam.
Those who are not familiar with the culture might find it strange, but it's not uncommon.
It is what it is.

Let's avoid double standards.

If kneeling down as a punishment is good for any apprentice, it is good for all apprentices, including married ones.

If kneeling down as a punishment is bad for married apprentices, it is equally bad for unmarried apprentices.

Let us not judge the matter based on marital status. If the treatment is bad, it is bad. Married apprentices and unmarried apprentices have equal dignity as humans.
u ft allow Ur lecturer in higher institutions to flog u for getting 3/10 in classwork?
You are not making sense at all. Even without been married when someone is of age 18 u can't just treat them anyhow u cut some respect else u will be equally disrespect.

This is the most reasonable response here: do not change the penalty for an offense from one adult to another on the basis of marital status. People can choose not to marry at all but can't choose not to be an adult. Fairness has no marital status.

On the contrary, I just learned that girls and ladies should not be knelt down for whatever reason as it has a way of affecting their womb. If this is true, our schools and teachers should be informed.

You are twisting things here. The topic is not about punishing children versus punishing adults. The topic is about punishing adults that are married versus punishing adults that are not married.

So, any apprentice that is single is automatically a child and every married apprentice is an adult? Don't you see shops where married apprentices are younger than the unmarried ones? Do not tie dignity to marriage.

You are missing the point. As long as the offences are the same, let the punishment be the same.

If you condemn the punishment because the offender is married, condemn the same punishment when the offender is single.

The reward or punishment for an action should not be based on marital status.
This is not entirely correct. A married woman shouldn’t be treated like that. I won’t take it for my wife. I would rather immediately engage the boss in respectful conversation. She can be asked to stay home or pay fine
Re: As Husband, If You Met Your Wife Like This, What Would Be Your Reaction? by Berankis: 5:27pm On Apr 18
I will ask her to stand up first as a husband, then I will go in to inquire what really happened to see if I can resolve amicably abd if not, she will have to go elsewhere. Cos you don't subject an adult to this kind of punishment.
This can't even be done to undergraduates in the University let alone a married woman.

In other words the punishment meant for toddlers should also be given in same measurements for adults.

At age 40 your dad can still be slapping you, after all, he is your biological father.
Chop knuckle, I so much love your submission. I wonder why this way of learning still exists for adults. There's a reason that Adult and Special Education exists differently. It seems we don't know what canning and all these punishment do to ones psyche, both kids and adults alike.

Telling an adult to kneel or canning them sounds retarded what's that suppose to impart in them? Some even cane adults, like are you mad because one is learning under you as an adult?

It's because there was hardly structured way of learning these skills decades ago. So graduates and adults have no choice but to enroll with all those roadside shops. Those ones will no want to unload their frustration on the graduate (or if unmarried) on the married woman. But with structured institutes of all sizes springing across Nigeria now, many people will rather enroll there no matter how expensive to avoid all these kind of see finish.

The interesting part is, even the madam herself might tell her stand up if she sees her husband [out of respect for her husband]

It's not that deep really.

Truth is, an omo-ise would rather serve punishment from her madam, than being told to go home [then she knows she must've really really offended her madam].
It's out of respect and humility, not that she cannot be defiant if she decides to.

Most people here talking like they don't know how it is.

He's not missing any point. Adults and kids have to be treated differently even when it comes to the same punishment. Married or not, there has to be different ways of treating adults regardless of their martial status.

Except the adult is mentally challenged, talking solves most of the problem. If they don't want to listen, you terminate the agreement and let them be ob their way. All those crude way of learning skills is fast fading away. Whoever still want to insist on such will lose apprentices!

What lesson do you want to impart by either canning and adult or asking them to kneel?

It is a lie. You can't tell an adult to kneel down. You can withdraw from the contract for breach. We are not talking about kindergarten kids, we are talking about somebody's wife for good lmess sake.

Such system is fast fading especially with coming of all these new age institutes ran by young people. It was because decades ago, such skills were concentrated in the hands of literate and semi-educated people who owns roadside shops.

All that is changing, and with competition everywhere now, whoever insists on stubbornly sticking to such will lose apprentices, especially with all these Gen z.

I wonder what lesson you want to impart in a sound adult by telling her to kneel? If she's late with genuine reason, you let her be. If not genuine, she has to go home or something. Not canning nor kneeling abeg!

I read your comment thoroughly and I maintain my stand. There are shits you don't try with a person's wife. No man will allow his wife to be treated like trash in the name of learning work. A wife is different from a lady and her due respect must be accorded without bias and in all situations.

You must understand that a married woman is different from a single lady. Someone brought a point of an adult and a toddler you said it does not relate or it's not the same reason. It's the same thing.
No woman I will marry will even kneel for one person self.
You never hear say head dey big pass konk.
What you are even saying is that a 40 years old apprentice will be punished same wey like a 15 years old apprentice. Does that even make sense to you.
