How Premier League Stars, Others, Are Inspiring A "Quiet Revival" Among Gen Z

This was according to an article in The Times, entitled 'Have young men lost their ‘herd immunity’ to Christianity?'

It points out that everyone from sports stars to nationalist political figures are influencing young men to return to church and to be open about it.

This may have led to the rise in the proportion of 18 to 24-year-olds who believe in God, from 22 to 37 per cent between 2019 and 2025, overtaking in 2023 the proportion who “do not believe in any sort” of god, which fell from 42 to 32 per cent'

Here's an excerpt of the article:

From goalscoring Premier League stars to nationalist marches, the religious gestures and symbols are adding to debate about a Gen Z ‘revival’

From Premier League footballers thanking God for setting up their match-winning goals to the spread of “Jesus is king” flags at nationalist rallies, young men in Britain may be losing their “herd immunity” to Christianity, experts have said.

While the number of people who identify as Christian has fallen to record lows, debate is raging over whether a “quiet revival” in faith is being seen among Generation Z, particularly young men.

Experts who have tracked religious trends for decades disagree over whether a spiritual revolution is really underway, but agree that Christianity has become part of mainstream public conversation in a new and sometimes controversial way. […]

What does the data say?

The proportion of people who identify as Christian fell below half for the first time in the most recent census while the proportion who have “no religion” has rocketed.

But surveys have found that Gen Z, aged from 14 to 29, are much less likely to identify as atheists than their parents.

It has prompted theories that there may be a renewed openness to spirituality among young people, with signs of an increasing interest in everything from wicca to paganism, and that the militant atheism once popularised by Richard Dawkins has fallen out of vogue.

There was surprise when a YouGov survey for the Bible Society last year suggested 16 per cent of those aged 18 to 24 now attend church monthly, up from just 4 per cent in 2018. It was even higher, at 21 per cent, among males. This would equate to hundreds of thousands of young men suddenly having become churchgoers.

I remember many years ago when I was determined to quit my passion for football, because I thought it was a huge distraction from the things of God, however while I was yet working towards it, God told me that He had many people in football.

At the time i could hardly grasp what God meant by that particular saying, however shortly afterwards, Brazil won the world cup in the Korea/Japan 2002, and during their celebration, they wore tops preaching about Jesus and sharing His Gospel to the whole world, then the whole Brazil team and their coaches gathered together and formed a huge circle in the middle of the pitch and began to pray.

Now i had never seen or heard such a thing before, but it happened shortly after God had told me He had many people in football.

Therefore it began to make sense because imagine how many people that would ordinarily be difficult or impossible to reach with the Gospel, but were watching the world cup final, and football provided the stage for them to be reached with the Gospel.

Hence why I'm not surprised that many football stars were using the same platform to preach His Gospel today, and consequently drawing many young ones to God.

I also know there's a lot more where that came from, because God has many souls in football.

God bless.

Their parents were also less likely to identify as atheists where they were in that age bracket.

I saw a Twitter post of Doku too thanking Jesus after scoring two goals against chelshiit last week.

The fact is youths of this century are now more religious conscious than in previous decades. You can't scroll down two pages on X now without seeing a religious post.

Then i do my celebration point my finger to the sky and say Thank you Jesus grin grin

Some goals look like divine intervention like drogba header against bayern in UCL final to win Chelsea first UCL cup.
That goal was not ordinary at all. It looks 100% divine intervention.

The genz are a fearless and mannerless generation. If you get any true disciple of Christ from among them, they are very bold and useful in the kingdom business.

What is principally driving the revival is the fear of an Islam dominated world....Gen Zs have seen what is happening in muslim countries and have told themselves that in fact there is no alternative to christianity.

Islamic terrorism is driving the growth in christian numbers....even many muslims are now converting.

Before Boko Haram i was an atheist after seeing islamic terror...i have no option but to go back to christ!

Are they truly believers or just following a trend, or trying to farm engagements?

Matthew 7:22–24

ESV

22 On that day tmany will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’

23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

1. Lamine Yamal: Theres no way you will watch him play and not give your life to Jesus. As in, how can anybody dribble his fellows like that if not that Jesus himself has returned to the world to play football and enjoy sexx grin

2. Saka: He is second Jesus. He is the second coming of black Jesus. The sinful world have injured him, but he will be back and better.

3. Estevao: He is the book of Revelation himself. He is the 7th dark house that is to come. He is fire and brimstone all at one.

4. Mbappe: If you watch Mbappe play, then you will realise that Jesus Christ created football in his own image. Because initially, football was without form and void. Mbappe will make you surrender your life to Jesus Christ.

5. Haaland: Haaland is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. He has come to conquer and win. King Haaland will score today, if not, then he is not the king.

I think this is as a result of the presence of many south American and players with African heritage in the epl. You hardly see a typical European player expressing fate based stuff. Check, it's mostly players with African heritage and south Americans

Re: How Premier League Stars, Others, Are Inspiring A "Quiet Revival" Among Gen Z by SoloHill:
Jesus Christ gives peace that No other thing or person can give that's why its hard for a true Christian to result to suicide or depression when problems occur counsel from spiritual leaders friends and the holy spirit helps Christians to overcome depression I can't forget the time when I was angry with my self and he ministered a scripture to me I opened the bible and checked and it said that I was not condemned (there is there for no condemnation for them that are in Christ Jesus......) I never knew the exact scripture before. The life of holiness and obedience is not just love and worship to God but also to our advantage many marriages for instances are struggling because partners disobeyed God and tasted other ppl before wedding now they can't stay with one person but even so I have seen men that through the help of the holy spirit and desire have put to death the desires of the flesh.
