Now we are at the mercy of local manufacturer that will hike the price again.

Banning importations has never favored Nigerians in anyways.

We are to greedy for that.

This is really good from the tinubu govt, nigerias pharmaceutical industry needs to be protected we have the capacity for producing world class drugs for our consumption and export.

I am also glad rice has also been removed from the import prohibition list, this will bring down the price for the common man and if rice prices go down, other commodities will also follow.
Nonsense. You easily forget what happened with the ban on importation of rice, you are praising this policy...world class drugs you say?..
😂😂😂😂😂

At least, we have some of the best PCM and metro manufacturing companies in the continent.

Emzor is there, Cinnamon Drugs, Juhel, Michelle Laboratory, AC Drug, Chemiron are some great brands here.
Absolutely correct, majority of the paracetamol consumed are manufactured locally.
I don't think I have taken a foreign manufactured paracetamol in a very long time.

I will take the president serious,if he bans foreign medical trips for politicians and their families, because this policy will only make paracetamol out of reach from the poor masses.
Re: FG Bans Importation Of Paracetamol, Metronidazole, Other Medicines In New Policy by youngrichnigga: 1:27pm On Apr 20
Something must be wrong with Tinubu and his habdlers/decision makers, is the local production of these drugs sustainable, subsistence and not exported because most of the paracetamol in the West African blog is produced in Nigeria. This policy might be shooting Nigeria's health balance further down. You can implement a stricter control for imports to control fakes but ourright ban is definitely going to be counter productive. More people will further resort to agbo because price of paracetamol would shoot up undecided undecided undecided

You won't have to. Most of our indigenous pharma companies: M&B, Emzor, Fidson, SKG Pharma and others are already manufacturing PCM tablet/syrups in Nigeria. This policy is long overdue

What do you think about this move? Can local manufacturers meet the demand, or should there be a phased approach?

Endinjustice:
Ban importation of drugs and basic foods for poor Nigerians, travel abroad for medical reasons. Country of particular concern.
You need to understand all the aforementioned drugs are being produced/manufactured in Nigeria by our indigenous Pharm companies. This policy is just to encourage them and improve local companies so as to make them competitive.

This will be different, We really need to protect our local industries......we already have already established industrial capacity in our pharmaceutical sector, there are already established companies su h as emzor, pfizer,Roche, fidson, may &baker and many others......this is different from the rice misadventure that we were only trying to reinvent the wheel and didn't have sufficient capacity for producing.

Yeah, that's if it doesn't become the case of rice also, where after ban, the price of the locally produced commodity skyrocketed.
This is different from the rice misadventure, we already have established industrial capacity to produce these drugs in the country and not like the opaque rice value chain where we were just reinventing the wheel .....our local industries need protection against foreign goods.....they will create jobs and more revenue for govt.

JuanDeDios:
So you want drug imports banned but rice imports allowed. You can't see that paracetamol is as critical to survival as rice. Ok o.
It's different, we already have established industrial capacity in the production of drugs unlike rice which we didn't have.
Re: FG Bans Importation Of Paracetamol, Metronidazole, Other Medicines In New Policy by FBIBOT(m): 2:15pm On Apr 20

Can we also ban foreign medical trips? After all UCH is there, OAUTH, LUTH, UBTH, UPTH are some great teaching hospitals in the country. No need going to France, UK or Saudi for medical care

Lame. Buhari used this same lame point when he banned importation of rice even when farmers can't go to farm due high level of insecurity.

By the time you start buying metronidazole for 3000naira per sachet, your eyes go clear. If Nigerian pharmaceutical industries has the capacity since they would have shown it.
