Will My Age Affect My Visa Being Granted?!! by Notfortheswift(op): 10:31am On Apr 21
I am a 31 year old Nigerian who would like to go for undergraduate studies in either UK,Canada,or Poland.I will be doing this admission myself (agents keep off). But I am concerned about my age.Do I have a chance at being given a study visa due to my age?

Note:I wrote Waec in 2011.I later obtained A levels in 2019.I gained admission to Lautech in 2019 but dropped out after a year due to lack of funds.I have since been hustling but I am financially ready to further abroad.

Please if you have other suggestions and ideas kindly drop for me,as I will be doing the admission process and everything by myself.

Yes, you absolutely have a chance at obtaining a study visa at 31 as a Nigerian, but your age—combined with a long educational gap (2019–2026)—makes your Statement of Purpose (SOP) and financial proof critical.

You still can, but you would just have to explain what you've been doing after graduation, if you say job or business, your TCC (tax clearance certificate) becomes very important

No

Your docs will... if there are discrepancies

All you need is University admission letter n good financially backing..then you are good to go, especially in the UK

DIY..don't let agents destroy your journey with fake docs

Some schools are strictly on agents. The agents won't charge you, the school will pay for their services. Check from your school of choice website.

What kind of question is this?I even thought it was a 50 year old asking this question or someone older.!

Oga, so long as you have good enough proof of funds and valid proof of admission from a registered college or university...APPLY FOR THAT VISA.

The simple answer is no.
Since you have an A-level certificate, you can apply to a German university and open a block account. To reduce your waiting time for an appointment, schedule an interview on the visa appointment system and sort your documents in descending order in preparation for the visa interview.

Being 31 years old does not prevent you from gaining admission to study abroad, whether in Poland or Canada. Universities in both countries admit mature students regularly. What matters is not your age, but your academic and application profile.
Here’s how it breaks down:
1. Admission Reality (Age Factor)
There is no official age limit for most universities.
Many people apply in their late 20s, 30s, even 40s.
Schools actually value maturity, clarity of purpose, and work experience.
2. What You Must Have
To be competitive, you need:
Academic Qualifications
For undergraduate: WAEC/NECO (with good grades)
For postgraduate: Bachelor’s degree (minimum 2:2 or better depending on school)
English Proficiency
Exams like IELTS or TOEFL (especially for Canada; Poland sometimes waives it if prior education was in English)
Supporting Documents
Statement of Purpose (very important at your age)
CV (especially if you’ve worked before)
Recommendation letters
3. Special Considerations at Age 31
This is where you must be strategic:
a. Study Gap Explanation
If you’ve been out of school for years, you must clearly explain what you’ve been doing (job, business, training, etc.)
b. Program Choice
Choose something that aligns with your background or experience
(random career switches can raise red flags, especially for Canada visa).

Re: Will My Age Affect My Visa Being Granted?!! by izombie(m): 5:30pm On Apr 21
Dude, once the school gives you the admission and you pay the required fees for your studies. The school will send you all the documents you need to go apply for a visa. Those at the embassy will be looking at your documents not your age. Make sure everything you provide is authentic. For your other question, try poland or finland.

Re: Will My Age Affect My Visa Being Granted?!! by koladata(m):
Continue doing the business, apply for visiting visa, go and come back, find a way to connect back to lautec or unilag and start one small business program, education is cheap in Nigeria, more expensive abroad... There's a new world order and we don't know what will be come of the job market in few years time. Don't go and waste your hard earn money on education.

Finish bsc in Nigeria then apply for masters abroad.

Even at 45 man still entered europe to do Masters. You are still very young and qualify for many scholarships (some that cap at 32).
Follow your heart jor, and don't let anyone tell you nonsense. Even if you miss it and want to keep trying, you can still until you even reach 50. But the yonger the better. I know why I say so.
Re: Will My Age Affect My Visa Being Granted?!! by excelchips(m): 6:50pm On Apr 21
Your age is of no importance but your money does. Western world unis needs your money nothing more. I think you should bother yourself with other issues apart from that - which course should I studied ? Do I plan to come back to Nigeria after the masters or you want to stay back ? - that needs to guide you on the course you would do. Do you actually need the masters or is a way to escape Nigeria ? Those are things in my opinion you should bother yourself with. Have a deep thought about those and come up with a strategy that works for you.

As long as all your documents are genuine and your 'truth' is consistent you are good to go. I am a living example. Went for my post graduate in US 15 years after my Bsc. No need to tell you my age, definitely older than your 31

Thank you for your attention to this matter
