Sokoto Protesters March To INEC Office, Call On Tinubu To Remove Amupitan by Dailybellz(op): 7:48am On Apr 23
A coalition of youth groups in Sokoto, in collaboration with opposition political parties, has staged a protest at the Independent National Electoral Commission’s office.

The group, which converged on Sokoto on Wednesday, called on President Bola Tinubu’s government to take urgent steps to protect Nigeria’s democracy.

The protesters, led by Yusuf Abubakar, marched peacefully from the federal secretariat to the INEC office, holding placards and chanting political slogans.

The rally drew participants from youth, women, opposition party members, representatives from the National Union of Road Transport Workers, and commercial tricycle and motorcycle operators.

Speaking on behalf of the demonstrators, Mr Abubakar demanded the immediate removal of INEC chairman, Joash Amupitan, or his voluntary resignation.

The federal government must endorse Amupitan’s expulsion, or he should resign voluntarily to save our 27-year democracy,” he said.

He alleged that Mr Amupitan’s leadership was threatening the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy, particularly following INEC’s removal of the African Democratic Congress leadership from its portal.

“INEC’s action is a clear violation of democratic rights. We are therefore calling for justice for transparent and fair democracy to prevail, especially as the 2027 elections approach.

“The federal government must act to preserve the integrity of our democracy. The actions of INEC are undermining the democratic process,” Mr Abubakar stated.

The protesters were received by an INEC official, Yahaya Tanko, on behalf of the resident electoral commissioner in Sokoto.

Mr Tanko acknowledged the peaceful nature of the demonstration and assured the protesters that their grievances would be forwarded to the appropriate authorities.

Nigerians tire me. Upon all the banditry and kidnapping, no protests. It's INEC chairman there's protests because some people, who may come in tmrw to be worse than the incumbent, sponsored it.

Clowns. But they cannot march or protest all these years against the daily killings, bombings and bloodbath of their fellow brothers and sisters by Boko Haram and the likes right in their face.

Tinubu is a Muslim. For him to appoint Amupitan to umpire the election shows how liberal he is.

Since the constitution have given the power to the president to appoint INEC chair, even if Amupitan is removed, do they think Tinubu will replace him with someone he does not trust? Keep whinning urselves.

Must every core position in the country be given to an Islamic extreemist or what is wrong with brain of these people?

Its not this protest I am looking at...its the protest from the North during campaign season. How can TINUBU, after betraying the North that made him President, now campaign in the same region "Peacefully"?

Peter Obi please align with Atiku and this election cant be contested. If you align with kwankwaso, you will be rigged and the courts will definitely work against you. Kwankwaso, will be offered his "Kano Stronghold" for compensation.

Get brain and align with Atiku

So coz they cannot march for what's happening in their state, that should be enough reason not to march on other issues? Is just like saying if Minister of Defence fail and steal all the money meant for security, other musters should fail too and steal money

God how can the country move forward if majority have this kind of thinking ability? '
