About 40 passengers from Israel were detained for several hours at an airport in Moscow on Monday before being let into Russia following an intervention by Israel’s Foreign Ministry.

“As soon as the incident became known, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acting on the instruction of Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, contacted the foreign ministry in Moscow and the Russian embassy in Israel and, following this intervention, the issue was resolved and the entry of the Israelis was approved,” a Foreign Ministry spokesperson told JNS on Tuesday.

For many of you who do not know, Israel has a complicated special relationship with Russia. A large portion of Israeli citizens either returned from Russia or have Russian citizenship. Israel and Russia tried their best to stay out of each other's way. They are both Nuclear powers., and they also recognise each other's capabilities. That was why when Ukraine requested the unused Patriot defence system from Israel, Israel refused to give it to them to avoid upsetting Moscow. Now the interesting part, when the Israeli military recovered a large cache of ammunition from Hezbollah, and found out the arms were made by Russia, Israel shipped the arms to Ukraine as payback.
