NDC Disowns Fake X Account, Denies Lobbying Specific Candidates

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed claims that it is lobbying specific individuals or groups to contest elections on its platform, describing such reports as false and misleading.

In a press statement issued by its National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the party urged the public and media to disregard information circulating on both traditional and social media suggesting that it is courting particular candidates ahead of future elections.

According to the statement, the misinformation originated from a “rogue” account on X (formerly Twitter) that is allegedly impersonating the party’s verified handle, using its official colours and logo. The NDC clarified that it had previously alerted Nigerians about the existence of the fake account and reiterated that any content published from it does not reflect the party’s official position.

The party stressed the importance of verifying information through its authentic communication channels, specifically its verified X handle, to avoid the spread of false narratives.

While distancing itself from the impersonated account, the NDC acknowledged what it described as overwhelming support from Nigerians, despite being a relatively new political party. It expressed appreciation for the growing interest in its activities and vision.

The statement also served as an open invitation to Nigerians across all demographics to join the party and actively participate in its affairs. The NDC encouraged citizens who are passionate about positive change and committed to strengthening multi-party democracy to register as members and contest elections under its platform.

Particular emphasis was placed on inclusivity, with the party urging women and persons with disabilities to take advantage of the opportunity to engage in the political process through its structure.

Describing itself as an ideological party dedicated to national service, the NDC reaffirmed its commitment to advancing the interests of Nigeria and its people.

The statement concluded with a call for Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to freely align with the party’s vision and contribute to its growth.
