Anywhere u go and the doctors feel they know too much for u to offer ur own suggestions, opinions or observations just run.

This woman could have been saved if the doctors dropped their egos and listened.

Whatever you do, pray Nigerian doctors don't ever have to cut you open in the name of surgery.
You will never remain the same by the time they couple you back together.

In many industries, AI and humanoid robots need to become a thing.

In case anyone is wondering how this is possible.

Doctors account for one of them ost demographics with substance abuse. Yes many of them are substance abusers and actually go on theatre on a high.

You don't remain sober and leave a pair of scissors in the stomach of a human being.

Many doctors in Nigeria were forced into the profession for clout and family affiliation without the zeal or interest.

That's how we got here.

A case of this nature can happen anywhere, including the western world.

While incompetence can cause medical negligence, most of the medical negligence cases involve errors where a competent professional fails to act reasonably, such as through misdiagnosis, overconfidence, or systematic errors.

We have seen many cases involve highly trained doctors failing to act reasonably, often due to overconfidence or errors.

When it happens here in Nigeria, the doctor and the hospital, most of the time, get away with it without facing any repercussions. But when it happens in the Western world, the doctor and the hospital suffer a significant financial loss, and the doctor's license can also be revoked.

Lifestone:
The hospital should be shut down and the licence of Medical Doctor who performed the surgery should be withdrawn. The Doctor should be prosecuted for professional negligence and after that the family should sue for billions of Naira in damages.
The Government department that is responsible for monitoring hospitals should also take a blame for allowing these abatiors called hospitals to still be in existence.
Obviously there were no scrub Nurses in that hospital.

a lot of issues.who sees a standard hospital with may be Many specialist ( gynaecologist/theatre nurses/ anaesthetist) and now decide to be operated on in a hospital where anyone will just operate and assisted by a quack(may be one CHEW or a porter giving ketamine and the likes- because most people like using quacks for cheap labor just to maximize profit against standard protocols.one can not be sure if the person is even a doctor (anything goes in Nigeria)

Honestly,My mother inlaw had a knee surgery done by white doctors in delta before Covid 19.The doctors were missionary doctors from abroad.They subsidized the cost of the surgery for very few patients in nigeria and other parts of africa.My mother inlaw happen to be among the lucky ones selected for the surgery.
They did the surgery excellently well that she no longer feel pain on her knee.They were truly professionals.

Due to Covid 19 between 2019 & 2020 the doctors could not come back to Nigeria after Covid.

They did surgery in one of her knees so the other knee started paining her.
The Nigerian Docs at the facility where she did first surgery claimed that they could do it as the white docs did when they were around.

Fiam,Her son oversea sent money for all surgical requirements.Our oversabi docs started surgery.

Pia pia piaa surgery finish.woman went home thinking is over like the first one.

Waam waam waam leg started swelling.She was given cluclutches for walking support.from 2022-2024 it was one excuse to another until she was booked for remedies in 2024.
Stories upon stories until the woman kpai around March 2024.

I don't know what to tag the pathetic situation we found ourselves in healthcare delivery in this nation called Nigeria.Is so unfortunate honestly

And the scan they did that showed the scissors, hope the sister was smart enough to make a copy of it before handing it over to the hospital?

They will remove it, hide every record that will show the second surgery.

No qualified theatre nurse was there.
Instrument are counted before and after surgery.
It might not be scissors, could be other smaller forceps

From the way that doctor was talking about waiting for the autopsy, I'm sure he must be gearing up towards compromising the result of the autopsy. Most private hospitals in Nigeria are death traps where all manner of malpractices take place. They're just out to rip people off their monies in the name of treatments!

Government needs to intervene and protect Nigerians from untimely deaths due to medical negligence! Special body should be set up to regulate activities in all the hospitals. Such bodies should be empowered to facilitate prosecution and punishment of erring hospitals and medical doctors!

Many of these doctors will not pay attention to improving the rots in the system but would instead indulge in trying to usurp the duties of other healthcare professionals in the hospitals and stifling the growth of these other professionals while the various specialities in medicine rot away! Too bad!

They do forgot that too in-between internal organs.

These are mushroom hospitals and rogue doctors .... The hospital should be closed down, the doctors and nurses should be jailed

The most annoying part is how Nigerian doctors act like some kind of gods, as if they know everything.

In fact, one of the worst just happened recently in Florida, where a surgeon took out the wrong organ, and the patient died.

Solution: can we have a data of such incidents, causes and what needs to be done to prevent or reduce the occurrence?

Doctors can't continue to act body present but absent-minded with no consequences.

Like you said, you can't count...so, does that mean we should see it as a norm?

When my dad had arthritis in the late 2020, he was visiting a private orthopaedic hospital. His condition worsen so fast; up to the extent that he couldn't stand or walk unaided within the first two years. The doctor then suggest a knee replacement surgery at a sum of 4M that time.
We couldn't afford the money and we keep managing it.
March this year, we started visiting UCH and that was when we realised there's an injection which could suppress the progression of the arthritis and it's pains for a long time.
The doctor we met at UCH said his condition wouldn't have been worse if he had been visiting UCH from the onset of the condition.
He said the doctors at the private hospital may not know about the injection or might just want to be keeping us around as patient for a longer time.
One shot of the injection last for about 9 months and it was just 75k around that time. At this time, we have spent over 2 million on drugs, injections and physiotherapy sessions.
The moral of this story is that we shouldn't totally underestimate govt hospitals and when using private ones, make sure they are the best.

May God console the family of the deceased and give them the fortitude to bear the loss

To be honest this same hospital is very professional when it comes to surgery or operation,am thinking this kind of mistake is spiritual because most of this kind of error has happened in almost the big hospitals i know,but the case was covered up because it didn't result to death even in uk,I pray make God be with the family and the children she left behind...

You are right many male chew...technician's, Health tech working in hospitals are fronted as hospitals as doctors..when ever you ar sick they bombard you with all classes of antibiotics without considering your renal status etc..they mostly do house visits and work at night..anybody treating you..please verify their mdcn status..don't be treated by a hustler.
