The Average cost of building a solar plant is around $1.6m, about #1.5bn padding/inflation for the people in charge. Nigeria is a joke to sane countries, a channel for jokes and dramas

sevenhundred:It is, and your saying it isn't is you being in denial. It always has been...since the days of NEPA and even before. And now that power has been privatised since 2013, it has to be let to set its prices, otherwise it won't function well. NO be lie, no be defence of any government, just common sense. No company would work well if government was setting its prices. |

nairalanda1:But is there no way this bypassing of electricity can be curbed? Omo, I dey feel for PHCN oh. This issue, it's not just the poor people that are bypassing electricity, I know people who are well of still bypassing, and it's the PHCN guys that are aiding them. This country sef. I seriously think it's because people don't get punished for their misdeeds, from top to bottom, that's y this country is in this mess. By the time we start setting examples, then things will start taking shape. |

nairalanda1:Why making excuses for them when they're already privatized to charge whatever they like? Even the Band A customers, how many people are actually enjoying the service? They should simply enforce prepaid meters for everyone and they'll have peace of mind, but Sam dem no gree dah won, dem say dem wan continue dey rip off customers via estimated billing. They should also expect to be ripped off in turn. These gencos hate customers on prepaid meters and would scarcely put them on Band A sef, even if they have the money. They're privatized already, if they like they should get their house in order, if they like they shouldn't, one way or the other, they'll learn. ![]() |

lebete3000:So if I said your business is not doing well because government is setting the prices of the goods you sell way below what you bought them for wholesale and not covering your losses.. I am therefore making excuses for your failure as a businessman. When in reality I am pointing out the bad government policy that prevents you from making a profit I am bashing government policies and you are being abusive to me because of that. |

I wonder how old you are not to know yet that ChatGPT answers depend on how you phrase query. If you ask it to support any notion in this world, it simply will. I'm not someone like u that depends on that. But on real engineering knowledge in the field. So I can help you get informed if you don't choose to remain sillly. 20 years lifespan is reserved for Tier-1 monocrystalline panels. The ones you have here is the Thin-film panels (e.g., amorphous silicon, CdTe, CIGS). It's even worse that they are very low quality. Go and ask people that had to arrest their installer what they observed after just 6 months. Now, check the AI response that explains the type of short lifespan panels you see around. Since that is your knowledge source. TheBizGenius:

Check my previous post explaining to another half educated person like you too You don't even know the type of panel you should research about. If you think it's those modern monocrystalline panels that's available in Nigeria. It just became clearer where your schooling should start from. Guestmale: |

IndexMode:The challenge? Young people getting the power and platform to talk without having anything beyond opinions to say. To be worthy to be listened to as an expert, get the EXPERTISE (talk to an electrical engineer), EXPERIENCE (work in that environment for at least 10 years) AND EXPOSURE (read up big time on it). Your assumption that government projects use the same specs as the ones you buy off the store shelf is even weird. And no, I would not insult you back. My background is too aristocratic for me to get into the mud with you. #all these me sef I get opinion people sef# |

You needed the insult. You initially talked with a stoic stance as if you actually knew about solar panels. Now you are calming down. It had a good effect. But you are still wrong. Electrical engineers need to actually specialize before they know much about panels. I've actually done that business a little but I soon realize you have to lie to get ahead. I was talking about the panels people are installing o their roofs. That its not a worthwhile investment. Not this FG project. The one they did in Ghana. They placed it on the river, to help with cooling and I commended it. I insist that those panels they sell in shops and just put flat on the roof without even mounting gap are just decoration and won't last more than 2 years before the owners get frustrated. People that are informed are already moving the conversation to the environmental hazard of discarded panels that would soon become common. TheBizGenius: |

IndexMode:To address 3 things. 1st, my 1st degree is in mechanical engineering and that was 35yrs ago. I listen to real intelligence from people who actually studied relevant courses during discussions rather than "I do business in.." My best friend back then was in Elect. Elect. and he was building a failed inverter by the time we were leaving school. I tend to respect people like that. Like I would respect a mechanical engineer and not listen to a roadside mechanic. It's a thing with me. 2nd, the subject matter was a government project and I showed you what chatgpt said but you probably felt triggered to defend and justify your position but now you're changing the goalpost to cheap hardware bought in stores. 3rd, I still can't insult you, even if I wish to. Like I said, a person's background shines through, no matter the provocation. Have a great day ahead. |

Guy rest. u r not an engineer. You won't have rushed to chatgpt for input. You had no professional insights. U didn't even know there are different types of panel. Next time don't jump into people's mention without first reading what they are talking about. TheBizGenius: |

IndexMode:And finally, the insults stopped and educational backgrounds show up. Either you didn't attend a higher institute of learning or you didn't think it through to realize that educational curriculums would have changed over the last 35yrs. Furthermore, I doubt if mechanical engineers today would study solar panels. For your info, I transitioned into law, later management, later consulting and finally into business. (Suspecting it's not your 1 shop/container business type though, which explains why you feel you have to lie to your customers and clients). Have a wonder-filled lifetime. |
