This will be one of the best things to happen to Oil producing nations who will grow the balls to break free from this Oil cabals. This OPEC idea is not in line with current realities. Imagine Dangote refinery buying crude oil for $100+ per barrel for crude that is gotten from her own country, crude gotten basically from her backyard. 😎

The problem with your "brilliant" idea is that it favours the western buyers who can now drive prices low by forcing a race to the bottom in terms of price per barrel, as opposed to oil producers forming a Cartel to maintain decent income for oil producing countries.

So this does not favour Nigeria at all.

That crude oil is in "your backyard" doesn't mean it is free for Dangote to take.

Or that the process for extracting and delivering the crude oil costs 5 Naira because it is in "your backyard".

Every country should be able to stand on its own without interference. For Nigeria, there’s a lesson here. Beyond just being a member of alliances, the real focus should be on strengthening local production capacity, refining, and energy infrastructure so we’re not overly dependent on external decisions.

Independence only works when the fundamentals are strong. That’s where the real work is.

First, thank you for accepting that my idea is "brilliant" in itself.

Secondly, thinking that forcing the price of crude oil down would only favor western buyers is nothing but a figment of your imagination. From experience, any time any "union" that controls the price of a commodity is disbanded, it favors the populace. For example, look at your local markets where they are "Unions" and compare to the ones where the market is free. Once the false pricing is done away with, the market naturally adjusts itself.

Thirdly, that crude oil is in our backyard does not mean Dangote refinery should take it for free. But if you will be sincere to yourself, the pricing is way too high, given the proximity of the product to Dangote's Refinery. And this is caused primarily by a group of oil cabals sitting somewhere to fix a very undeserving price while they continue to stuff their pockets with the consequences of their price fixing.

Fourthly, that bringing the price down will "not favor Nigeria at all"? You must be kidding me 😎
