All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant in Lagos state, Samuel Ajose, has said that the endorsement of Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as the next governor by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Governance Advisory Council, GAC, will not stand.

GAC, regarded as the highest decision-making body of the All Progressives Congress in Lagos State, endorsed Hamzat, as its consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The decision was reached during a closed-door meeting held at Lagos House, Marina, indicating an early alignment within the ruling party ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Speaking after the session, GAC leader, Tajudeen Olusi, said members unanimously agreed on Hamzat, expressing confidence in his ability to sustain and build on the state’s developmental progress.

Olusi explained that the meeting was convened to deliberate on the party’s forthcoming primaries and assess the governorship position ahead of the 2027 elections.

Speaking about the GAC adoption of Hamzat as Lagos APC consensus 2027 governorship candidate on Arise News on Tuesday, Ajose said that Sanwo-Olu and others are trying to force President Tinubu into making a decision.

“I don’t think our president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is giving in to what they are doing.

“What they are just trying to do is to coerce him into taking a decision, and I don’t think that decision will stand.”

Every right thinking person knows APC operates like a cult. You're either at the table or on the menu. They've been using the same tactics all this while and I guess it favored you somehow, now it's being used against you and you have a problem with it.

You were Commissioner under Fashola for 4 years. You were Technical Advisor to Fashola as Minister of Works for 4 years. You have been deputy governor for 8 years and it is not as if you are exceptional in any of your posts. Even if you are exceptional is that why you want to make political position your family heritage? You are just a greedy thief like Rotimi Amaechi who was Speaker for 8 years, Governor for 8 years, Minister for 8 years, yet the thief still say some people have spilt Nigeria and he is the new Messiah. Obafemi Hamzat will be the next governor of Lagos State.
During 2019 elections,he was the frontrunner for the APC governorship primaries before he was pressurized to step down for Sanwo Olu.

To become a Govnor in Lagos, you must pass through the 'process' which i think Incoming Govnor Hamzat has fulfilled.
You can't just come out of nowhere to become Govnor. I know for sure you must be an experienced Civil Servant, must understand the cultural values and heritage of Lagos, be in tune with the Lagos blueprint (yes there's a blueprint, not that you come and disrupt the flow)...
Lagos has earned that natural selection process for its leaders.

Ambode is competent but his maverick and arrogant disposition made many in the GAC petition Tinubu to side with their efforts to remove him.

Nigerians don't know the correct details of event. Tinubu was not looking to remove Ambode.

It is Ambode actions, including letting his wife go too far in power-drunkeness, that put Tinubu in a position where he could not save Ambode because majority of the GAC members had decided he must go.

Lagis is probably the only State of Nigeria where the man who is governor does not own governorship.

Lagos , in Nigeria, is the best example of institutional checks-and-balance power that does not allow any leader become greater than the geographical space he leads as obtains in the best democracies in the world.

Keir Starmer, UK PM, just narrowly escaped the equivalent of an impeachment yesterday because members of the British parliament voted against a formal inquiry into him that could have been the end of his time in office.

It is only Lagos that has that kind of political structure whereby no single individual is bigger than the interest of the State.

Regardless of what our ignorant neighbours from the SE claim, with their talk Jagaban is "holding Lagos captive", Tinubu would not have enjoyed the success, loyalty and support he has today in Lagos had he not earned it being a leader who humbly pleased the majority in Lagos from leaders to followers and all direct stakeholders of the State.

There was a primary during Ambo time, both Ambode and Hamzat were the major contestant in the primary then.

Although the preferred candidate won which is Amobode.
