Police Arrest Officer Involved in Killing of 28-Year-Old in Delta

The Delta State Police Command has arrested and transferred a police officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, to Force Headquarters, Abuja, for disciplinary action over the murder of a 28-year-old suspect, Mene Ogidi, in Effurun.

The incident, captured in a now-viral video, which occurred on April 26, 2026, has drawn condemnation from the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, who described the act as a clear violation of established rules and procedures guiding police operations.

In a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, Bright Edafe, on Tuesday, the Command said the deceased was earlier apprehended by members of the public while allegedly attempting to waybill a parcel containing a Beretta pistol loaded with four rounds of ammunition.

Police operatives attached to Area Command Effurun were subsequently deployed to the scene to take custody of the suspect.

However, ASP Usman, who led the team, reportedly discharged his firearm in breach of Force Order 237 and the Nigeria Police Force Standard Operating Procedure, resulting in the suspect’s death.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police ordered the immediate arrest of the officer and his transfer to the State Headquarters in Asaba for preliminary investigation.

The Command confirmed that the officer has been queried and subsequently moved to Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he is expected to appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee “for immediate disciplinary sanction and prosecution.”

Reiterating its stance, the police said the Command upholds the rule of law, respect for human rights, professionalism, and accountability, stressing its zero tolerance for “lawlessness, recklessness and extra-judicial conduct.”

CP Oyeniyi also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and assured them that justice would be served.

I talk am. Some of those boys are useless. What else did he do to merit the pulling of trigger? Dead men dont speak so anything the officer comes up with will amount to lyrical exercise in the eyes of the judiciary n public.

That was a clear case of premeditated murder.

The manner and speed with which he fired at that guy, someone that did not pose any immediate threat, was suspicious

I hope the police inspector is not part of kidnapping syndicate, fearful that the victim may spill the beans.

He was either power drunk or making sure suspect will not speak/ implicate others. These are just speculations

I will just kill you and nothing will happen but this was caught on camera ..

If the killed is a terrorist to hell with him. If the killed is trying to smuggle guns for politicians, to hell with him. If the killed is an armed robber, to hell with him. But if the killed is innocent, to hell with the policeman.

Many of them dey do this kind of thing without the public knowing.

If them do background check now, that police man na repentant Boko Haram member. Them plenty for army too.

The only explanation here is that the officer acted to silence the suspect. There is no other justification for this extrajudicial killing.

Its obvious that the police guy is hiding something because in the video the young man was crying and begging, asking to be giving an opportunity to lead them to the people involved but rather they gave him bullet and snuffed life out of him.
Something is not adding up and this must not slide away,human right groups,activists and family members must make sure that Ogidi gets justice.

This could be part of the reasons Nigerian Police always pamper violent criminals and even release them back into the society after arrest




Yes the Police Officer acted on impulse but but, I insist Nigerian criminals, kidnappers and terrorists all need our Nigerian way to combat them effectively. These guys are taking Nigerians and our law for granted and deserve some hardline law enforcement tactics to make them realize that crime does not pay

The ASP must have been ordered to kill the guy but you know our force superiors anything not glory na you go carry the cross.

Others officers were watching him shot him in the leg and later killed him to show you they all know about the order or else they would have cautioned him.

The boy was tied hand and leg meaning that he was harmless and carried to that spot, they also made him face back, method of execution.

After killing him they carried his body into the space bus. Most bodies like that are thrown into the water for fish to eat.

Lastly, the officers knew he was been filmed, he was aware of the camera, since is aware of the camera only a fellow officer could confidently hold a camera in that situation.

If you have ever been arrested or locked in the custody of SARS you will know they do execute some hardened criminal most especially if the criminal have killed a police officer or terrorized the community for a long time.

Na you no know say SARS they kill criminal without taking them to court most especially if the criminal has become there customer for more than 5 times.

SARS can even release a criminal without taking him to court no matter the number.of guns they find on him.

However I don't know anything about this case. But fear federal sars.
