The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has recorded a significant political boost in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the defection of youth politician Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye, along with his supporters into the party.

Tagwaye, a former member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the recent Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship election, was formally received by the NDC leadership in Abuja.

At the reception were the party’s National Leader, Seriake Dickson, National Chairman Moses Cleopas, members of the National Working Committee, and the FCT Chairman, Haruna Pai.

Presenting the defecting politician, Pai described Tagwaye as a widely known grassroots figure with strong political reach across the FCT and beyond, assuring him of the support of party members across all wards in the capital.

Cleopas disclosed that the party leadership had engaged Tagwaye in a series of consultations prior to his formal declaration, noting that the interactions confirmed his suitability for membership.

“After extensive discussions, we found him to be a good fit for the NDC. Today, we have formally presented and decorated him before our National Leader,” he said.

Tagwaye was subsequently decorated with the party’s fez cap and issued a membership card.

In his remarks, Dickson welcomed the new entrant, describing the NDC as a stable political platform free from internal crises, litigation, or factional divisions. He commended Nigerians for their growing confidence in the party and urged citizens to participate in its ongoing nationwide membership drive.

According to him, the party remains committed to building a credible alternative capable of delivering good governance and repositioning the country.

Responding, Tagwaye expressed appreciation to the party leadership, stating that his decision to join the NDC was driven by a desire to contribute to national development rather than personal ambition.

“I joined the NDC for the betterment of Nigerians. After the elections and the crises in my former party, my supporters sought direction. After careful consideration, we resolved to align with the NDC,” he said.

He added that his political structure extends beyond the FCT, pledging to mobilise support for the party nationwide.

Tagwaye also acknowledged the role of Amanda Pam, whom he described as a strong pillar in the FCT political landscape.

This is a welcome development.

If Seriake Dickson could singlehandedly form and register a political party, why didn't Amaechi, ElRufai, Aregbesola and others toe the same path?

We were hoping those guys would provide us a formidable opposition but they let us down.

Nobody should mention Tinubu for the opposition party's failures. Those picnickers did not do their homework jooo. Opposition is more than jumping ships to form coalition.

No politician in power would pray that opposition get their hearts together but these coalition guys catwalking up and down should take responsibility for their inadequacies at least for once.
