Balfour declaration didn't make anything possible. The Holocaust forced the major powers to take a moral position in support of a Jewish state. Britain made a lot of promises to different people as wartime strategy during the first world war and Balfour declaration was one of them. It wasn't for any altruistic reason but to win the support of influential Jews and counterbalance ottoman influence in the middle East. Just like Nizooria promising Cameroon bakassi peninsula during the civil war.
If the Jews didn't make a unilateral declaration of independence, fought and continue to fight to defend it, Israel won't exist today.
