The Central Bank of Nigeria has introduced new BVN guidelines set to take effect from May 1, 2026, bringing major changes to how Nigerians access and manage their bank accounts. The update includes stricter security measures such as one-device login limits, a one-time phone number change policy, and possible temporary restrictions on accounts flagged for suspicious activity.

With the new rules applying to all BVN holders, customers are advised to update and secure their details ahead of the deadline to avoid disruptions. While the policy aims to reduce fraud and strengthen digital banking, concerns remain about its impact on access, especially for users navigating Nigeria’s existing banking and network challenges.

Can't see any issue with the guidelines provided it doesn't require us to queue for another numbering

Government should make it easy for citizens to provide personal information and update the same

When is did my BVN, the bank staff didn't even know exactly what it was .

We were amongst the first sets because back then my account was every important to my bank as I did business really regularly and in digits they loved

So they just said , we have this form for you bllaa

I told them to fill in all my details with them

that is it turned out latter to be a networked information that will have to tally with other information in places like NIN and voters cards

Since then, reconciling the information has been a challenge.

My NIN birth date doesn't match with my other information and that if the NIN was actually the faults of the guy that inputted the data into their online server

I am now told that i need to pay almost 30,000 to solve that problem

Anybody wey promise free upgrade in those platform that him I go vote for in the dining election

I no need any other gift .. if Tinubu say him make am free for the next 6 months for Nigerians to update and online too because the first problem had to do with the pressure the guys was working under

There were a lot of BVN mistakes then and a lot of people till date do not know because BVN details are not open to the public.

Identity management in this country is just like most other administrative things, shoddy.
