No it isn't. Study software engineering. Hardware doesn't pay much. |

I'm just thinking of where you can work as a computer engineer. I don't think the course is of much relevance in Nigeria. |

The problem with Nigeria tertiary institutions is there won't be much practical on computer. I remember during tertiary, there are some of my course mates studying computer/other field, but they couldn't create ordinary email address |

Ignorant think computer engineering is about roadside computer repair or solely computer hardware based. Computer engineers design, automate, scale and solve complex business problems. They work in robotics, write softwares for machine called OEM softwares and so on |
| Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by Gbadugbakun(m): 8:22pm On Apr 30 |
olyrayy:AI still falls under software engineering. |

Its a dying course... Organizations are moving away from on-premises infrastructure to cloud so fewer hardware lay within their environment. |

Atheistan:So, who would manage cloud infrastructure? ![]() |

| Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by chopnaira: 8:28pm On Apr 30 |
Flangelo12:My Source: I am a professional Engineer practicing outside Nigeria. OP should Stick with the traditional engineering. (Electrical, Mech, Civil and Chemical) if he has the chance. |
| Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by Flangelo12: 8:29pm On Apr 30 |
chopnaira:You're practising outside Nigeria, yet you are misleading him. ![]() Just say you don't know much about it. |
| Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by chopnaira: 8:30pm On Apr 30 |
Flangelo12:I practiced in Nigeria before I moved abroad. You are not the OP. Why don't you state your own opinion and move on. |
| Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by Goodvibes007: 8:31pm On Apr 30 |
I can't remember when I saw an Engineering vacancy specifically asking for computer engineer degree. It would likely be advertised as a job for Electrical/Electronics Engineers. For a standard organization, ATS filter would likely screen you out, even before you make it to an interview. |
| Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by Flangelo12: 8:32pm On Apr 30 |
chopnaira:Because I would not stand and watch you mislead him. Computer engineering is perhaps the most lucrative, and adaptable course in the world today. Stop misleading him. |
| Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by Goodvibes007: 8:33pm On Apr 30 |
Flangelo12:Lmao. This is so hilarious. |

chopnaira:I am actually ashamed. It is better to keep quiet than to expose your ignorance to the world. What do you take Computer Engineering course for? |

I would say study electrical engineering, then pivot to computer engineering for your postgraduate. Reason being that electrical engineering is by far the most immune career to AI, and computer engineering is only a subsection of electrical engineering. FYI: I'm MBCS, so I know well enough about the industry to advice at this level. |

CJStarz:I am using my 2nd handle. Spam bot got that one on a different thread. No. I am in Canada. I practiced in Nigeria, the UK, the US, and now practice in Canada. |

| Re: Is Computer Engineering A Good Course To Study In Nigeria by Goodvibes007: 8:39pm On Apr 30 |
Flangelo12:Yeah. My colleagues working in Samsung and AMD hold degrees in Electrical/Electronics not Computer Engineering. My point is that you don't need a degree in computer engineering to work as a computer engineer. Go for a more general course that makes you more versatile and open more doors of opportunities. Don't narrow yourself to computer engineering from the get go, which some universities even still classify as a course under Elect/Elct. |
