Kwankwaso convenes stakeholder meeting, set to join NDC - PoliticsDigest by alsudan(op): 5:51pm On May 01
A major political shift appears imminent as former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is reportedly set to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), with a crucial meeting of his inner circle scheduled for later today.

Sources disclosed to POLITICS DIGEST that Kwankwaso will meet with key stakeholders this evening at his residence in Kano, in what is seen as a decisive step toward formalising his defection to the emerging opposition platform.

The development follows a series of high-level engagements between Kwankwaso and NDC leaders.

Earlier this week, the former Governor hosted a delegation of the party in Abuja, including its National Vice Chairman (North-West), Mohammed Bakin. Party insiders say the delegation used the meeting to formally urge Kwankwaso to join the NDC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Although no official commitment has been announced, sources within the Kwankwasiyya movement indicate that consultations have intensified in recent days. The movement’s spokesperson, Habibu Mohammed, confirmed the meetings but stressed that discussions remain ongoing and no final decision has been reached.

“It is true that they have met him… but this remains part of ongoing consultations,” he said, adding that multiple opposition platforms—including the PRP—have also initiated contact with the former presidential candidate.

The latest push comes amid rising political manoeuvring within opposition ranks, as parties seek strong alliances ahead of 2027.

Notably, speculation has been growing over a possible joint ticket between Kwankwaso and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate. The talks gained traction with the recent launch of the “OK Movement” by supporters of both politicians to galvanise nationwide backing.

Further fuelling the momentum, the NDC’s official handle on X (formerly Twitter) has been inundated with campaign-style images promoting a potential Obi–Kwankwaso ticket, urging both leaders to “come home” to the party.

Analysts say the situation is compounded by internal challenges within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where a lingering leadership crisis has raised doubts about the party’s readiness for the next general election, despite the Supreme Court judgment. This has potentially accelerating Kwankwaso’s consideration of alternative platforms.

As anticipation builds, attention is now firmly on the outcome of tonight’s Kano meeting, which could determine whether Kwankwaso makes a dramatic political move that may reshape opposition dynamics in Nigeria.

Lol. One of the many clowns, who have built nothing, now insisting they are saviours of Nigeria. They will all be put to shame.

Did he take permission from Obi before leaving? Obi's supporters are still running with their OK slogan all over social media.

Almost certain that Obi will join Kwankwaso in NDC to Run the OK Ticket that Nigeria desperately desires.

Atiku the desperado can consider ADC dead and buried.

Might just go and pick NDC HoR Ticket, as the OK Tsunami will blow many into elective offices.

When I said Kwankwanso will repeat the votes splitting in 2027, some people didn't understand.

Our agent, well done

For a moment, you would have thought pitobi has won the election, judging by the jubilation that followed the Supreme Court pronouncements. What, exactly, has changed since then?

Now Kwankwaso is reportedly leaving the ADC, and the same voices are applauding the possibility of Pitobi doing likewise, even floating an Obi/Kwankwaso ticket. The sudden shift in narrative is hard to understand.

And, as always, when the storyline becomes inconvenient, the fallback is to lay the blame at Tinubu’s door.

Would've have been better if we have Atiku as president and Obi as vice .

Or better still Atiku as president and kwakwanso as VP.

Anything to unseat this error we have today is fine

All I see is fear disguised as confidence. This ticket will effectively kill the "turn of the South" campaign mantra. If this materialises, the probability of Tinubu emerging third as predicted by Elrufai may be a reality. Obi/Kwankwaso will be a solid ticket and with the right momentum, will sweep Tinubu away in the South. Unlike in 2023 when the North provided him with 5.6m votes as buffer after being defeated by Obi in Lagos, Tinubu will see a greater chunk of his 2023 Northern votes going to Atiku with the rest mopped up by OK. Even the middlebelt Tinubu thinks he has flipped is dicey and might slip out his fingers if he repeats the muslim-muslim ticket.

Meanwhile, Atiku picking a Seyi Makinde as Vice will mean states like Oyo, Osun (Aregbesola and LG funds factor) and Lagos are up for grabs. Tinubu is not as popular in the Southwest as his lackeys like to pretend and resorting to tribal rethorics to galvanise his base in Lagos like we saw in 2023 will further shut him out in the rest of the South.

Add Ondo too if Seyi is VP candidate. Maybe a triple horse race is not bad afterall because Tinubu seems to have lost all goodwill in the North

I can assure you that Tinubu has no organic supporter anywhere in the country as at today except those on payroll. This is apart from a few that has been radicalised in selected parts of the Southwest under so-called Yoruba conservatism. The real spirit of Omoluabi will triumph over conservatism come 2027. Tinubu has no pathway to re-election. He must have seen several polls on this. This is why he's actively trying to use the courts to disqualify his opponents.

This people want to hand over power freely to Tinubu. He wants to become a president with only Kano stats votes? I don't understand

You know them so well.

They speak with so much confidence, but underneath it is pure fear and apprehension. Their confidence isn’t based on the fact that Bola Tinubu is popular or has performed well; it’s because they realize he’s a huge failure and a catastrophe, and they believe he’ll use state apparatus to snatch it, grab it, and run away with it like a notorious criminal
