I once did that and it was the biggest mistake of my life... I couldn't open up to my family because it'd only escalate the issue, so I decided to open up to a family friend thinking since she's older, like in her late 50s, she'd understand and advice me accordingly... But in her response, she told me to go ahead, end it all and go to hell... Those words nearly ended me.

I even decided to take a public transport that day and left everything behind except for my ID and debit card. I could feel that I wasn't in the right state of mind to be behind the wheel and my plan was to disappear without a trace.

So just because someone is your family member or family friend, it doesn't mean they'd have the emotional intelligence to emotionally support you during difficult times... Rather open up to strangers or go for counselling.
