At first, a Polish university gave me admission, but the visa said no. What does Poland have against Nigeria sef? France, on the other hand, has a very confusing application system that completely scrambles your brain. I gave up halfway! Iceland Nko? Perfect destination, highest paying wage with the likes of Luxembourg and co, but never got admission. E pain me! I actually tried Canada too, and I was fortunate enough to get admission, only for the money to delay and the spot to vanish just like that. You know that point when you feel like maybe you are cursed or something! I felt that way every single day. Every Nigerian wey don try japa knows this kind of pain. You do everything right, ticking every box, spending money wey you no get on documents, agents and embassy runs, yet somehow something just dey scatter. No be say you no qualified, no be say you no deserve am, na just life, visa officers, timing and Nigeria. I repeat am, NIGERIA!!!! I run a Money exchange business for digital funds like PayPal, CashApp and co. I had business partners, and one of them, I called him in January 2014, two nights after we exchanged $200 for a customer through him, I asked him if he had plugged Vietnamese dong payment for a customer, the guy picked and casually told me that he dey China. China? Since when? Well, this is Nigeria, where no one announces their japa plans until dem don land for the other side. You fit dey drink beer with person on Monday, by Thursday you go hear say the guy don dey Atlanta. Being a real Gee, he connected me to his agent and the rest, as they say, is history. The school I got admission to is in Tongren, the Southwest part of China, on a Partial Scholarship. Total Fees are around ₦1.3m for a 1-year Chinese Language Program. Then Nigeria happened to me. The morning I was supposed to leave Nigeria, the police stopped me, at early 4 am at Ikeja Along. Dem search my phone, see screenshots of RMB transfers and Asian currency payments I help importers pay, a normal business that I do. Dem no even ask questions, dem tag me, yahoo boy instantly. I explained that I am even going to China to study and show them my documents, dem no send me! My flight dey leave in four hours, there is no way I am letting that derail my dream after all these years. I had to drop ₦100k just to walk free and catch my flight. As I make that transfer, I pack all the stress, blocked doors, frustration, and wahala wey Nigeria don give me for years, bundle everything with that ₦100k, and hand it over to them. Make e follow them. Make dem carry am for the rest of their life. Amen and amen again. The flight was Smooth. I landed in Guangzhou first, changed my dollars at the airport before heading straight to Tong Tong, a Popular African quarter for business people. Before leaving for my school, I entered a restaurant, ordered egusi soup with poundo. I enjoy every single bite because Tongren wey dey deep inside Guizhou mountains, that kind of food no dey wait for me there. I used the Chinese Bullet train to go to my New city. When I arrived at the School, there was one Question on my mind: "I want to rent accommodation outside the school, can I?" The answer was No!. And my agent already told me I could. Now here I am, jet-lagged, paid ₦100k to escape Nigeria, and dem say I go share bunk bed with three grown men. I have been living alone for over 10 years in Nigeria, and now, four different people with different hygiene and snoring wey dey shake wall. Class was pure warfare. I was 26 years old in a class full of 16-20 year olds wey their brain just dey drink the language like water. One wrong tone, you don talk completely different thing. You can't work officially on a student visa, but if you're smart, you can run your online business quietly. You can source from local Chinese eCommerce Apps like Pinduoduo, Taobao, 1688, receive goods, check them, then ship through Guangzhou agents. You are a tool to many if you position yourself here. I juggled all these till my one-year program ended. Before the Visa Expiration, I applied for and got a Master's scholarship, a Full scholarship with a stipend. The worst thing wey fit happen to you in China is to arrive without knowing the real situation. That one piece of information about accommodation changed my first month completely. Na why we create MagicStudiesHQ. Go to Twitter and search for the Name to get Updates. We dey tell you wetin your agent no go tell you. Real information before you land. We have Language programmes, Bachelor’s and Master’s scholarships. My Journey has been a success as far as I'm concerned.
