Saw this snake on my farm last night , it was on a pawpaw tree eating birds there when my security saw it , does anyone know the species and is it venomous
From the belly picture it look so like a black mamba but then other consecutively pictures made it looks like a cobra. But with the ash color belly from the picture, it actually looks like a black mamba. Maybe try check the tongue. If it’s black then it is black mamba

That my friend is the infamous Black Mamba snake. Or as the igbo’s call it Echi Eteka. It is the most dangerous snake in Africa cos of its fast acting neurotoxin and speed. You may wonder why it called the black mamba as it’s not black. The inside of its mouth is black.

It is known as Oluomo Yorubanese. It is a common snake in western Nigeria. It is mostly used by the locals to threaten perceived political enemies.

You shouldn't have killed it it didn't attack you,was in it's natural habitat (bush, forest)not in your house, compound or work place.it was eating a bird it's natural prey(food)which the latter could have even devoured your cereal crops and it is non venomous!!

thanks. I don kill this one plenty for my parents compound. I just googled it, but from what I read, its venom isn't as deadly as normal snakes, but no time to confirm
