Your palaver. Nigeria is my home. I be african man, original.

The below is a summary of my story.

I schooled and came back. But before returning I had had a mindset that the west would honour me rather than me honour them one day. I came hit the sector in which I'm much more relevant and even inviting experts to help for a fee today.
Back in the days I used to hear oil spill here and there, people wailing that their lands have been destroyed, shell paying hugely on compensation, pipelines being hit at remote places which can be tackled real-time without even paying a visit to the creeks with the IIOT . Thanks to Starlink smiley

Today, we've taken over the share of the market by 30% as an indigenous firm. By the time Dangote commences crude exploration, we'd have become the topmost indigenous company in our line of business in hazardous mgt.

As Nigerian, I had had the opportunity of meeting with the American president inside the DAAR hall near the White house, the only one from black Africa where the son of any country's president has never been. There's power in the tongue. I remembered when I said the west would honour me rather than me doing so and it came to pass. Tony Blair was the 2nd notable figure met, though years after his exit as British PM.

Those who wish to stay put in a foreign land, its ok. But If you stay there, who will fix Nigeria, Chinese, Indians and others who are busy taking advantage of us, conniving with our corrupt leaders? No way!

Anytime I come here and preach good governance and leadership devoid of corruption, their gullible followers always kick. They think they're more Nigerian than I am. It's high time we changed our mindset. America was once a super corrupt nation. Read the history of America. Kidnapping reigning today in Nigeria was once a norm at a time.

Benin republic used to be a hot bed of kickbacks and corruption. Their gendams no dey gree rest once they see Nigerians in those days. Same Benin republic is now rid of corruption. Enter cotonou you'll think you're in France. Light no dey dim, no solar panels littering their buildings as we have it in Nigeria today as a result of leadership failure. Their currency that used to be worst in africa has now left the almighty naira behind. A lot of african nations are achieving steady progress without making noise.

Vote out bad leaders who have refused to leave the space, despite falling down without being touched and seeking medical treatment every 3 months overseas. How will they concentrate on fixing Nigeria?. Ask tinubu the meaning of AI, he doesn't know anything. Their policies are archaic and anti people. I wonder if sentiments will put food at our desk. Enough said
As per your last paragraph, Nigerians don't have the option of removing bad leaders unfortunately. Elections mean nothing in Nigeria. It doesn't matter whether they want to vote out bad leaders or not, dem no fit.

Bad leaders will continue to lead Nigeria, we don't have the kind of system in the west that gives citizens power to remove a leader, nigerian citizens are powerless by design

Unfortunately nobody is giving you 10 million, so you will stay in the UK and become baba London staying in some council flat until they dump you in a old people's home.

Seyi does not have £10m? Why is his family living in uk? Go and check most of those big men, all their families stay abroad and they have £10m. Infact I understand at a level in some organizations, management will ask where your family stays and encourage you to move then away, infact one financial institution went as far as arranging mortgage for a person and offsetting the payment through bonuses at the end of the year.
Some people may have faced some kind of trauma that will give them ptsd, atleast I know one lady who visited naija after so many years, caught cerebral malaria and almost died, was rushed back to US, since then she no gree come again. Look at chiamanda and the loss of her child, you want to tell he 10m will encourage her to stay here? I know someome that years ago built a big house in lekki, an American returnee to naija. Just before moving into the brand new already furnished mansion he was kidnapped. Luckily, he got his freedom after paying millions, Omo the man was in the next flight abroad with his family and has not returned till date, infact it was my person that then rented the house.
Some will even tell you what is the point of money if you cannot tell your people you are going to rest in london, enter plane and travel, then your people come to pick you up on your return. Guy if the want to punish the Nigerian big man, to humble him, ban him from going abroad, they will ask you what is the point of money if you cannot travel. Abi why do you think our politicians shake when they are threatened with visa ban?
Unfortunate incidents, which are not palatable. Nevertheless, there are many returnees who live safely and go about their activities in the country. I think we focus so much on the negative aspects.

The problem with questions such as this is how unrealistic the numbers are. No one is dashing anyone $10m. In fact, most people don't have that amount in hard cash. Most are stored in assets, some of which cannot easily be liquidated.

Do $50K or max $100K, not $10m. You know wetin be ten million usd?

Nigeria might have worked for you , congratulations! But how many people has it worked for? He's not talking about individual achievements, he's talking about having systems that work - systems ensuring security of lives and properties, hospitals with facilities, societies with social amenities - good roads without one-way drivers, traffic lights that work, 24/7 electricity, communities that don't get raided by bandits and everyone goes about the next day like nothing happened, school children kidnapped enmasse for several years, kidnappings becoming an industry, ùnsafe foods and fake medicines, inflation hitting the roof, minimum wage the lowest etc etc..almost an endless list.

I got his point, clearly. Cutting off the head isnt the solution to headache. Had Americans run to Europe or Asia, would they have been able to solve their problems? Every working nation had a history of bad governance. Even till today, they still kidnap in America but now minimised with the technology in place. Now, it's gun violence.

The bad leaders wont live forever. They're dying gradually already. Even those who have refused to die keep falling without touching them. Can they buy time forever? Before I came back, Indians were dominant in this sector but we've reduced their activities to size, with the aid of the local content.

Please read about the history of America. Ghana was worse than Nigeria at a time. It's not same situation anymore.

In all these nations you're comparing and citing as an excuse for us to accept the prevailing quagmire, bear in mind that there was at least some level of political will to tackle the problems! - that's what makes the difference. If Nigerians are seeing such political will to fix these issues, then we can all talk about optimism and patriotism.

For many years now, the litany of problems have only gotten from bad to worse and progressively worse. Now, teenagers kidnapp friends and even go as far as murdering their friends even after collecting ransom, bandits are invading communities and community monarchs are fleeing, etc..etc..while the government is busy with 2027 elections to perpetuate themselves in office even from the first day in office! - These only shows you that these societal ills are getting worse while the ruling class turn blind eye and deaf ears! So, don't blame people who aren't comfortable residing in a country that can not guarantee their safety or comfort and also NOT making any plan to tackle the complaints of the masses. Money isn't everything! Peace is everything first, before money. Otherwise, you won't enjoy that money o!

I don't blame him at all. If a slave boat from the EU or America arrived Nigeria today, more than 2/3 of the general population would board it without a shadow of doubt. The ones that would remain would do so out of age or religious considerations. That's how much Nigerians esteem their fortunes in their own homeland. And who can blame them? When N29trn that could build nuclear reactors to solve the problem of power supply once for all has been given to a crony to construct two timely-foolish road projects. Who priorities roads that have alternatives over regular power supply? Tinubu, of course. All those years in Chicago University, only for him him to still think this way, despite billions in his estate. Omoh ehn... Hmmm...
Is this really true when did this happen?why are Nigerian governments and political office holders not taking uninterrupted electricity supply seriously?what's the essence of building a 2 way lane road when it isn't even secured? funny even if he accrued that 29 trillion for nuclear power it will still be looted and not used for it

Good point. But for the needed change to be birthed, some people need to chart a course. If we keep saying, nothing will change and stay aloof, it won't do us any good.

Let me give you an instance. When tinubu governed my state, people fell out of law and order. Everywhere was filled with touts. You could not trek under the oshodi bridge once it's 8pm. It was that bad. The moment fashola came, things began to change. Motorists taking one way and killing innocent passers-by stopped, after they were caught and made to pay heavy fines twice, for taking one way. Pedestrians forcefully adopted the bridge as a means of crossing over, instead of crossing the highway and risking their lives. Violators always got caught and tried in a mobile court, after which a heavy fine would be slammed on them. Illegal parking fizzled. Awarded contracts were being inspected in the night by Mr governor, etc. In fact, he charged some of the contractors who did a bad job, loyal to tinubu to court and nothing happened. Bur today, Lagos has returned to days of tinubu....leadership !

You see, someone needs to lead the way and that's why someone like me came back, not because of the money else, I'd be in Texas today working for Chevron. The sharp practices in the sector in which I work was too much before I came. Due to it's sensitive nature, I won't say much here. A lot was put in check which had reduced corruption and destruction of oil infrastructure.

People are ready for a change bro. Gradually we will get there. Not all Nigerians are bad. Enough orientation is needed. We, on our own are the ones initiating it cos the crop of leaders we have will never look in this direction. A better Nigeria is quite possible

If you're fixated on the $10 Million price, then you don't understand metaphoric expression. What the chap is saying is that if the systemic issues in Nigeria are not fixed, nothing - absolutely nothing - will make him return to go and live there. That's his call based on his lived experience, and no one should deny that. Is English comprehension still a large part of GCE O-Level English Language as it was those days?

Sometimes it's not just about the money. Nigeria is so full of uncertainties. No one likes living in such a state of flux. That's why politicians and civil servants steal, businesses cheat customers to get ahead etc. The system is too chequered that one can rarely figure it out.
